ED or ADAM ---- NASCAR2 Question

Will you have an option to put on "scuffs" or "stickers" in NASCAR2? Maybe a
future version? Also will you have an option for a passenger side windows? On
superspeedways they use it for more aerodynamics and they leave it off on
short tracks and road-courses for more drag. Anyway it was just a thought.

First off Dale sux. Now that we got that out of the way. Nascar
requires the cars to have passenger side window dew to such high
speeds at the superspeedways. The window helps keeps the cars
from getting airborn in a spin. Now then about it being Nascar2, what
diffrence would it make you can not see it unless you spin and then
why would you want to see it.

Hi Tony,

I don't want death or injury  in NASCAR 2 but it really would be
spectacular to see the roof of the car ahead as you enter the Taladega
Tri-Oval at 190 mph.

Cheers,

Craig

Then why is the passenger side window designed to pop out in a spin?

If the air can go through the car then it will not go over it like an
aircraft's wing - therefore less lift.   Same reason they have the
ridges above the windows and the roof flaps.

Cheers,

Craig

Actually, you'd just like to believe Dale sucks.

The s***or stickers idea sounds pretty good.

However, we've already been over the passenger side window bit.  One more
time--it's NOT and option!!

The passenger side window is required by NASCAR at certain superspeedways
to help keep the cars on the ground.  They were first used in the 1987
Firecracker 400 at Daytona, along with a lower right side skirt, and a
smaller carbuerator.  All this occurred because of Bobby Allison's crash
in the Winston 500 at Talladega earlier that year, when Allison's car cut
a tire, got airborne, and crashed into the spectator fence.

Several other rule changes followed, including the restrictor plate, roof
rails, a left side skirt, and finally roof flaps.  Also, the passenger
side windows, originally, were only required at Daytona and Talladega.
But, after Davey Allison's crash at Pocono in 1992, NASCAR mandated that
the windows be used at Atlanta, Michigan, Pocono, C***te, and maybe
Darlington (I didn't notice if they used them this weekend or not).  They
also require the windows at Indy.

So, once again, the passenger side window is not, repeat, IS NOT an
aerodynamic tuning device.  It's a SAFETY DEVICE required by NASCAR.

Besides, what good would it do to have one more thing to mess with in
a sim that it has already been stated the cars in which will not flip
over. Apparently Nascar wants to limit realism to the track only, and
so won't allow Sierra/Papyrus to implement flips in the sim.

You sir are totally out of your mind!  How can you say such a thing?
Don't you know anything about Nascar Racing?  By the looks of that
statement your either just looking to start a fight or you really don't
know JACK about stock car racing!

Ths only thing here that SUX is the first sentence of your reply!

Ah, but I'm not upset about no flips. It's that Nascar insists on
denying the reality that the cars *do* flip. As far as being morbid.
What's morbid about watching a simcar flip????? It's not like we are
asking to see arms. heads, and *** fly out of the cars!! Anyone who
would ask for that should be running the sim in a *** room.

>Then why is the passenger side window designed to pop out in a spin?

It's not, and it never has been.  Sometimes in a spin, the window WILL pop
out, but it's not designed to.  It does, however, have a safety release on
the inside in case the driver has to punch himself out of the car on the
passenger side.

I can't answer this question technically, at least not until I look at an
article I've got from Stock Car Racing magazine.  I'll just say that,
after Bobby Allison's crash in May of '87, NASCAR did some extensive wind
tunnel testing, and found that closing the side window decreased lift when
the car was sideways.  The rule has been in place ever since.

The drivers don't especially like it, mainly because it just increases the
heat inside the car.  But I know for a fact it's not an aero tunning
device, it's a requirement.
