Why does J Surtees in his Murasama circle Smogbank at 220 MPH?
Mine won't go faster than 202. I hit 212 by drafting another car.
But Surtees rolls along at 220 all by himself, which is good
for a 2:02 lap. Why is he so fast?

Well, you're doing better than me.  My top speed was 201, and I couldn't stay
CLOSE enough to another car to draft...

AI cars don't obey the same laws of physics as we players do. I think
there's an AI parameter which limits top speed and could maybe be used
to fix the problem. Some AI-tweak expert probably has the answer.

Hi!

Because Mark Beckman, who created the AI-files for Smogbank, made them so
fast. You can accelerate or slow down the AI with one simple value in the
file "track.ini":

[ GP ]
dlong_speed_adj_coeff = 1.200000          ; value modifies dlong velocities
(i.e. RELS) in .LP

Decreasing this value makes the AI slower, increasing speeds them up.
The reason for Mark to enter a high value here is that he wanted to create
AI that one could use for drafting in order to establish a new land speed
record for GPL, which at the moment I'm the proud owner of with 233 mph ;).
The whole discussion about this effort can be viewed in the Legendscentral
forums, especially in this thread:
http://www.legendscentral.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/001562.html
Hopefully someone will now break my record and bring this thread to live
again ;)).

Regards
Crash

Go into your track.ini and under the [GP] heading adjust the following
parameter

dlong_speed_maximum = 2.410000

This is from the Monza track.ini . 1 "tick" = 80mph therefore at Monza the
AI is limited to 2.41 x 80mph = 192.8mph
