Damn, I'm having posting trouble here now. I am not ignoring your comments
Jan/Kevin, I'm getting errors and the responses won't go through.

Trying new thread line.

means all of them, which would put an end to my budding online racing
career. Besides, I won't be in the way, I only use the track to cross it and
reach the scenery on the other side. ;-)

above. The best I've got so far is 420 and based on Orc room advice received
on that first night, I should join anything under 500. Seems to work ok, but
admittedly, I don't know what the others are seeing.

a little better. Put the clutch on the j-stick throttle which lets me slip
it with more control and then crash-change for the rest of the race.

Orc room: > It's often very friendly < Greetings are ignored and questions
answered by "who's on the help desk tonight?... ha ha" and "leave!" don't
tend to give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. :-(

There, that's working.

Jan, thanks for the encouraging words, gives me some hope with GPL. Easily
the toughest game on my PC and I have 100's.

lol. Learn the track layout & set up your car offline in practice mode, then
race online. Practice practice practice ;-)

Technically you can join a race up to about 1500 but it won't be a pleasant
experience ;-) Kev's tip is probably best, and the lower the ping rate the
better.

I use a Joystick and pedals (two controllers). Trigger to upshift & thumb to
downshift. I only use the clutch for spin recovery or if I made a bad start
& bogged down.

So you've met Dave Powell then ;-)

'I won't be in the way, I only use the track to cross it and reach the
scenery on the other side. > lol.< The man thinks I'm joking. ;-) > Practice
practice practice < It could be that life is too short for GPL.

I find that Microslop's game controller management software is about as
useful as the pimples on my backside. [To make matters worse, the wheel and
j-stick are MS products.] If I want to use the wheel I actually have to
completely 'remove' the joystick. Trying to shift their slots around ends up
in a fresh install of the wheel from the CD. Not true of all games but
applies to GPL.

I'll play with it though and see if I can get the pedals to work with the
joystick. I need to find a combo with potential before I start putting in
the hours to make the wrong combo instictive. Now after a crash, I have to
run through a checklist to get going again and I absolutely deny doing a
racing change from 1st to reverse.

illegal substance being used in there lingers.
