This should be easy enough to answer, it's probably a dumb question too.
I'm trying out the demo and when I do my qualifying laps, I want to know how
to end the session, and not exit, so that it actually counts - same thing
for races - I have to wait until everyone comes back to the pits at the end
of the race. I've tried pressing ESC but that just cancels what I just
raced or qualified with.

All you need to do is finish your qual and wait till the results come up on
the screen then you can esc out of it. The same for the race.
