rental.I have just got p3 500 with 56k usb modem. Is the ISDN line going to
be a whole lot better for on line racing,or will my phone line cope as well.
Thanks Joe.

I can only talk of the ISDN here in Germany (euro-ISDN): with ISDN
versus 56k modem you will improve speed, latency and quality. and you
have 2 B-channels 64k (56k in USA?) each. when connected to your ISP
with just 1 channel (without channelbundling), you have a spare channel
for your normal phone use.

That sounds pretty much expensive to me, well ISDN goes at 64K so the
difference in bandwith(amount of informaton it can recieve and send) is not
very high, but ISDN is digital so the actual improvement will be more
considerable specially when playing games. I don't know about how it is in
England but I'm sure u can get cable connection if u live in a big city, and
that really, really makes the difference, and since it all workd through the
TV cable u don't have to pay huge phone bills and here in the States it's
much cheaper to get cable then ISDN in England. I play Rogue Spear a lot
over the internet, and what I have noticed is that if u have an ISDN
connection i'll do alright but u have to forget hosting games.

253 install????
Cost 45 here in Norway, but the mothly fee is 20. And we pay for every
second of use. I'll recommend it nonetheless..
Quality is the main improvement IMO, I have had as good as no discos while
running ISDN with a good ISP.

In the UK, Home Highway (which is four lines - two digital euro ISDN and two
analogues, but only two of any of these usable at the same time) is about
40 to install and the cost of monthly rental doubles from about 13 to 36
(with 13 free calls).

If you want info of getting this check BTs website at www.bt.com and look at
signing up for Home Highway through the BT Together.  I've recently signed
up for router usage at home to work.  But its great for Internet access and
online ***.  Shame about the UKs 1p to 2p a minute local call rate charge
which we still have.  Hopefully, we'll get free access soon.

ADSL in england will be here this year...Prices should be around 30 pounds
for a month...With a one pay installment fee (Not sure what they install
here as it connects via your original phone line) Also this is Unlimited
access..30pounds a month and thats it !!!

Sounds good to me !!! and at 2 meg a sec..(probably less as BT are tight)
should be amazing for us slow-mo brits !

Jason Crossley skrev i meldingen ...

You'll get a different NT-box on yer wall with sort of a modem innit. And
they do change
a few bits in yer locala phoneline central. Could you see what
the install fee is? Cause ADSL is coming over here too...

You'll be fine with 1 meg down and 516 up anyways is my guess. Options here
is different,
but currently it's hard to get, and the installation fee is HUGE:(

Cheers,

matt

All I can say is that since I switched to ISDN before Xmas I have not been disconnected from any GPL race.  I get pings around 100 lower than with a modem.
