X-CAR IS ACTUALLY VERY GOOD

In response to the negative posts about X-car as being too arcadish and
unrealistic, the game is set up(default) in the arcade mode(easiest car
model, assisted shifting, braking, steering). You have to manually
change(in the options screen) the difficulty setting. Once all options are
turned off, I defy you to say its not difficult or realistic. I enjoyed
this game much more than ICR2, GP2, and Nascar 2.
The graphics easily best Nascar2 and ICR2, and on par with GP2 with much
better frame rates with all the detail on.  The tracks are more detailed,
the cars are faster, you get a actual sense of speed, and you can turn the
wheel and not have the car wipe out(i.e. you get a sense for the width of
the tires). However if you really want to break with the pavement, you can.
The car configuring is the simplest and MOST PRACTICAL I've seen yet. You
can configure something and then go test it on a variety of test tracks
specifically designed to test certain parts of the car. Skidpad,
slalom(through cones), top speed and another one which I can't recall. You
can also adjust certain things on your practice laps of the races.
Excellent job by Bethesda and they were also very generous to give this
much of the game as a demo. I will be buying this one
I am curious to know how much better the game is by using a wheel instead
of my flightstick pro(which is better in this game than i all of the other
sims I previously named.)

BTW, some additions I would advise Bethesda to include with the game is a
car editor(by that I dont mean the paintkit). The ability to use some kind
od 3d model editor, to design your own cars would GREATLY enhance the long
term appeal of this game, for me at least.

Actually, XCar is a full blown racing sim, no two ways about it.  The wording we used "Arcade", is deceptive,
so we are likely changing it to "rookie" mode, since it's meant to help those that are newer to driving full
sims break it in easy.  We don't want to have a steep learning curve, and this mode is meant to help them
gradually get into full realistic mode, which is as real as it gets.

The only thing I have to say for this is, hey, you're right doggone it!  Actually, the engine has been
optimized now, so expect to see faster frame rate, or more detail, depending on the track.  Full detail, SVGA
and it runs like a dandy on my P100!

We are attempting to provide a more indepth help menu, to help those that are a bit intimidated by the car
modification menu (hey, I admit it, I was scared when I first saw this screen.  Thought I needed a Phd...), so
each option is more carefully detailed.  Also the manual is quite comprehensive, and the XCar website (coming
soon... really) will pleasantly impress you with the level of content meant to support the game.

The demo is definitely quite feature ladden!  But the full game really does have so many more things that to
us, it's worth giving out so much for free.

OH, by the way, there is a bonus in the demo.  Each major *** magazine has a specially designed prototype
car.  A car that is not found in the full game.  These cars can be imported into the full game.  :)

Gentlemen, start your engines!

I heard a rumor about a possible car editor! and track editor and engine
editor(Not the game engine)Just image people creating the IMSA Nissans,
Porsches, Corvettes, and Toyotas of the IMSA GTP class!

From the tone of your message I am assuming that you are involved or
close to the X-car production team. If so could you explain if the
early demo has a joystick calibration problem? I cannot get it to
properly calibrate my T1. It works fine with my Joystick but without
the T1 its not as fun. Other than that the game looks great. If this
is fixed I will definitely buy it.

I calibrated my T1 using the white adapter.  Using two axis' on joystick
one.  It worked ok in dos and w95.  Good luck!  Steve

Press R in the calibration screen to reset the values.  Same thing
happened to me when I switched from a joystick to my wheel. It calibrated
real funny with a full turn of wheel only moving a little on calibration
scale. Once I pressed R and recalibrated , everything was great.

Hope this helps

X-car does have 3D-hardware support (3dfx, Verite)
doesn't it ???

If not, sorry not much interest to me. Lots of Racing contenders
in the market at the moment.. Nascar2, Carmageddon, POD
I-76 etc, etc. and lots more to come... So, I can afford to restrict
my interest (and pocketbook) to those which are released with
3dfx support.

Features AND frame-rate are BOTH rather important to me
in any form of action game. And I have been astounded by
the frame rate and detail enhancement  of 3dfx  on those
action games for which patches have been released.

Sorry, I have become spoiled by my 3dfx card and have
developed sharply raised expectations of 3D-graphics
performance in action games over the past few months.....

Still, I suppose that I am in a minority and the big software
companies can afford to ignore edge-of-technology
people like myself........

You know there is talk of doing a 3dfx patch and a Rendition but I think it
is just talk! Anyway If you were to compare the graphics engine of Xcar to
Gp2, Xcar would be the winner!(in frame rate of course!)
