Okay, okay, so it's probably been discussed before.  Just got my copy
Saturday - still just poking around in this one.  But I've got to comment on
the extra chicane just beyond start/finish line on the cleveland track .
Where did this one come from? Hello?  "...GPS accurate to within 10cm..." -
my big ol' butt.  How could they miss this, or am I the one missing
something?  Anxiously awaiting the patch to see if this one can pull me away
from GP2........

yeah that drives me crazy too, that is a track configuration that they haven't
used for 5 or 6 years...

I don't have the game yet (please, oh please, Santa!), but a
friend of mine said something about that extra chicane being
representative of the old Cleveland circuit. Apparently, it was
a pretty exciting place to watch when cars were coming out
of the pits... (translation: they changed it for safety reasons)
My guess is MS/TRI got a hold of some old blueprints...

In any case, it is wrong... Hopefully this is fixable (at least by
some talented folks here if not MS/TRI) when the track editor
comes out...

Glad to know that at least the chicane DID exist at some point in time.
Question is, just exactly what were they measuring with their "GPS units
accurate to within 10cm..", or is this a bunch of crap?  It may be a bit
presumptious to say, but I figure these MS/TRI guys are physically at the
tracks with their GPS gear, mapping this stuff out....Oh, sorry, that would
take too much money, so lets just look at some blueprints of the tracks
instead!?!?!  I would LOVE to hear their explanation for how that happened.
(not holding my breath though!)

I think they used an old layout map and measured what they thought was the
track. Since the track is made up of runways and taxiways they measured what
they thought was right. i guess none of these guys watch CART races.......

Hehe do you have the nuts to go out there with the GPS equipment while
there are airplanes flying by you from every direction.  Keep in mind
that the Cleveland track is a full-time airport and only converted to a
race track for 1 weekend a year.

I don't think it's a load of ***as far as the permanent tracks are
concerned, but it may be a stretch when they're talking about the
temporary ones... Especially in the case of Cleveland, where I
doubt the FAA would approve another racing related shut-down
of an airport! Especially for a bunch of computer nerds making a
racing game! :-)

I have only been a CART fan since 1995 so I wondered where the heck this layout
came from!  I wasn't around when the old layout was used.

If I remember right, I think the CART team said that it had something to do
with the way the pits in C:P.R. work.  If you remember the "real" Cleveland
track, the exit for pit road comes out into the middle of turn 1.  For some
reason, the C:P.R. pits needed to have the track set up like it is in the
game for them to function properly.  Hope this helps!

Of course, and I doubt anyone could argue with that. However what was
wrong with popping along to the track while the airport was closed for
the race, or getting hold of the race videos and doing it from those?

Personally I don't think it's a big deal, but if you read that
something is GPS measured for incredible accuracy and then find some
aspects that obviously aren't due to whatever compromise, it makes you
wonder which other parts of the game were compromised.

Not a complaint, not a moan about CPR or MS/TRI, simply an observation
on human nature.

Cheers!

a little off the subject but laguna seca is pretty close but the best part "the
corkscrew" is not very close at all.  I have raced at laguna many times and icr2
is the only one that gets u that close to the real feeling.  papy did such a
great job on mid-ohio, elkhart (except the kink) and laguna i couldnt believe it
when i first played icr2, felt like i was really there.  but i still wont give
up the real racing though. just my 2 cents. Just wondering if others feel the
same way.

Actually I have raced at Laguna Seca too and it seems real too me. Turn 6 is
dead on and produces the same car dynamics that I felt when racing there.
The cork***is realistic too. The only thing that I noticed that is
different is the small undulation in the hill leading up to the cork***
and in turn 11 the wall is moved back on the inside part of the turn.
