Peripherals for ICR?

by Brian Wong - SMCC Technical Product Marketi » Thu, 07 Jul 1994 03:17:08

My daughter drug me into an Egghead this weekend for a different
purpose and on a whim I bought myself a copy of IndyCar.   At the
moment I only have a Gateway *Handbook* to run it on, which has no
provision for gameports, etc.  I have discovered that while I can
actually drive on ovals with the keyboard, it's HARD, and driving
something like Laguna Seca is ludicrous.  I noticed the advert for
Thrustmaster peripherals in the box, but gee, $180 is a little steep.

What should I be getting to be able to drive ICR well, hopefully not
spending $180?  Do most folks use a joystick, or do you really need
one of the gizmos that has a steering wheel-like thing?  I probably
wouldn't ask this about other games, but I'm really impressed at the
level of reality in ICR.

Also, since I'm getting a new system (see why I'm not up for $180
on just ICR?), does ICR make use of 1024x768 or 1280x1024 displays?

I am a World Circuit player but I use a joystick now.  Couldn't imagine
playing it with anything less (keyboard, mouse).

Saw the T1 at Incredible Universe and Computer City for about $129.
Steering wheel, shifter, pedals, and a couple of buttons that I dont know
about.  Got the go ahead to get it at Christmas, but kissing up to get it
sooner.  (Anybody have ideas how to get my wife interested in this game???
2nd computer playing head-head might work.)
