Hi guys,

I've just upgraded to Win98 and now my soundcard wont work anymore. From
what I can understand and see/hear... it seems like the card wont play
certain sounds.... I.e if the sample-rate is to high it will only play parts
of the sounds.. (sounds like the "M$-sound" etc. only play about a sec.
every now and then.)

I've d/l the lates drivers from Creative and got DX5 + Dx6-core installed.
It seems to me that ActiveX is the problem.... if i run the DX diag tool. it
will play the first (low sample-rate sound) perfectly, but thats the only
one I can hear...

I got a SB16Pnp and Abit BX6 mb. w/128mb ram.

I'd be really trilled if anyone could give some good advice here as I'm
eager as hell to get back into the***pit... :)

Thanks,

Hi Ed,

I had the same thing a few weeks ago and the problem was that the
soundcard had set itself to IRQ9. Although it was alone on that I
decided to force it to IRQ7, since IRQ9 is the cascaded one from IRQ2
and from my DOS configuration days that used to cause problems. Lo and
behold that fixed the problem, and the system has been perfect ever
since. The symptoms were the same as yours, I would hear about the
first one second of each sound then silence.

Cheers!
John

Now if I only could find a free interrupt to use for it.... :(((

Got any more suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Ed

Unless you are using any USB units, the Abit board can disconnect the
USB all together, and since you are now using a PS-2 mouse (I'm guessing
here) you can disable one of your "com" ports, both are done in BIOS and
then in Win98 afterwards if they still show up, if you are still using a
seriel mouse, disable the PS-2 connector, hey presto :-)

Beers and cheers

Don't bend down to tie your lace in a revolving door? :-)

Personally I forced the soundcard onto the same IRQ as my printer (7 I
think), since I rarely use the printer and GPL was more important to
me than solving the problem at that moment! It really depends upon
your needs, you could try disabling PS/2 or USB support maybe?

Cheers!

Oki,
I've fixed the sound part now....
Thanks alot for the help John!

Unfortunaltley that didnt solve it all.....
when i try and start GPL the screen will just turn completely weird with
lotsa messy graphics or just go back to Win98 with a different refresh rate.

I got a 8mb Thrille AGP and have tried with both old and new drivers.... any
help here would be good.
