I had run several laps off my five gallon fuel load and the tires on my
ferrari are good and sticky. This is going to be the one... THE LAP I've
been waiting for, my first 106.xx lap at Watkins Glen.
I cross the start finish line to begin my historic journey. I'm glideing
nicely though the esses, hugging the apexes just like I had imagined in my
head. Comming out of turn 3 to the long front straight, a quick glance down
reveals slightly more RPM than I had ever seen before. Things are indead
going well.
Hard breaking and a slight nudge on the wheel get me into the loop.
Ahhhh I see that nice Goodyear sidewall staring at me... motionless... maybe
braking a little too hard, huh? No problem, rolling of the brake slightly
and the rear end stays where it should be.
Off the loop and through the gears to the speed trap. Hugging the rail
as best I can. Straightening up and *** the brakes to negotiate the last
few turns.
Now to the ninety, which has cause me the most problems, down to 2nd..
now 1st.. tuuuuuuuurning in, I made it! Now ON THE GAS..
HUH?!? (Engine kinda gurgling)
NO!!!!!!. I'm running out of fuel!
I cross the start finish and hit F2 to check my replay.
107.17 AHHHHHHH!
Well, this was truely heartbraking, to run out of fuel and gurgle across the
finish line missing my goal by 17 hundredths of a second. A lesser man may
have done something drastic like goto bed, but I ventured on, hit shift-R
and finally prevailed about 8 laps later with a time of 106.99. (Replay
analyser actually says 106.992, lol)
I am obviously no Hot-Shoe as my times reveal, but I sure do have fun
trying. I have a lot of respect for y'all running 103's out there. Even
so,I have never felt so much pride in accomplishing so little. Thanks
Papyrus for a great sim.
