Dead cpu?

Hi all,
I need some advice.  When I turn on my PC, the video card stats come up and
then black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left corner.  I've had
some heat issues in the past.  Could it have fried it?

P4 1.8
Geforce 5200
XP
768 ram

Thanks,
Tim

try booting from a floppy, if it boots fine, then its obviously another
problem.  If you are getting video post, the cpu cant be dead IMO.

Take your memory out and put it back in tightly.

I don't think you can fry a P4. It will shut down before the heat gets to
high. I don't know about the newest AMD's but older ones just needs a split
second without the heatsink on and their finished.

Thanks for the replies.  I got it going, my ethernet card wasn't seated all
the way in.  Weird. Didn't think that would cause that kind  of problem.

You can fry any type of CPU, no matter what devices they put in to stop it.

Ethernet Cards can cause any sort of problem you can imagine.  From system
freezes to earthquakes :)
