GT4 + Logitech DFP Wheel + The Ring

Hi all.

I guess I'm never going to beat 9 minutes with GPL as I fundamentally
have the wrong driving style for 67 cars.  I've tried for years and
just can't seem to develop a rythm.  If I use the ReplayAnalyser to
calculate my best sectors, I can probably reach under 8:30, but I run
out of talent long before it becomes possible.

Anyway I reckon this leads me onto the point that I can't get
"intimate" enough for the ring.  I can't get to anticipate sequences of
bends properly, which I believe would make me a more accomplished
driver.  My theory is that I need to know what's in the next mile or so
to accurately position the car so that I can get a flow going.

Anyway, I think I've found the "training tool" to get me on the right
path.  I know that there are differences between the versions, but the
bulk of it is pretty close enough for me to get into.  I realise also
that the cars in GT4 are much easier to control than the Lotus or even
the Cooper, but I think I will persevere.

I had a fantastic time last night following a Maclaren SLR watching the
popup speed brake as we went round and round in 8 minutes.  I admit I
was driving a 6 litre SL Merc as well, but hey, its my game.

I've also discovered what a great game (not sim) it is to hotlap in.
Autumn Ring Mini in a Ruf 911, Subaru WRX & aforementioned Merc and
comparing the different approaches is just amazingly ***ive.

I've taken a break from GTR and haven't bought rFactor yet, so I've
been away from PC simming for a while.  This GT4 thing, though, is
great fun and very immersive.  I know the graphics aren't as good, or
the sound, or the accuracy, but I still play it all these months later.

I know some of you can't stand the GT series of games, but thankfully
you are in the minority anyway.

Cheers all

Here is a great site with any and all information one could want on GT4.  I
went there for setups and information on how to make the cars drift better.
It has helped a great deal.  My problem with the game is that the put too
much understeer into the program.  Now with a few minor tweaks and different
tires I can drift or break the rear end loose coming out of a turn.  I know
the AI still stinks but the handling is much more realistic now.  It's a
great pickup and drive game.  The forums on this website are very
informative.

Hi,

Haven't been there in ages.  Another thing about GT4.  Its pretty much
made car wallpaper pictures obsolete for me.  You can do so much cool
stuff with the basic photo stuff and a memory stick!!  That site has
tons of cool gt4 car pics / videos too.

Thanks

If you like GT4, also try Enthusia - I think it's better than GT4,
especially in the physics department. Also has the Ring in it :)

this weekend planning to rent:

Enthusia,
Ferrari 355 (old sega arcade title)
and....
Burnout Revenge.

One thing I don't get from PC games lately is the rush of adrenalin
titles like Burnout 3 & SSX 3 did for me.  Its like getting a jolt.

PC games are more about patience leading to rewards, imo.

cheers

Mate, if you can't get a rush of adrenalin sitting on the grid at the
beginning of an online race against humans, anticipating the rush down to
T1 with a bunch of nutters with too much horsepower and cold tyres, then
you need a new hobby. ;-)

After all these years it should be a sense of inevitability in a pick up
race at Monza rather than an adrenaline rush but somehow we never learn :)

Haha,

2 things.

1) I am one of the nutters you refer to!!

2) I need a faster than modem connection from the bottom of Africa!!

I've been looking for a good reason to go ADSL, this could be it.  Its
very expensive here, about 150 US$ / month for a 1MB line and then its
capped at 3gigs / month...aaargh...

Cheers
