I guess I'm never going to beat 9 minutes with GPL as I fundamentally
have the wrong driving style for 67 cars. I've tried for years and
just can't seem to develop a rythm. If I use the ReplayAnalyser to
calculate my best sectors, I can probably reach under 8:30, but I run
out of talent long before it becomes possible.
Anyway I reckon this leads me onto the point that I can't get
"intimate" enough for the ring. I can't get to anticipate sequences of
bends properly, which I believe would make me a more accomplished
driver. My theory is that I need to know what's in the next mile or so
to accurately position the car so that I can get a flow going.
Anyway, I think I've found the "training tool" to get me on the right
path. I know that there are differences between the versions, but the
bulk of it is pretty close enough for me to get into. I realise also
that the cars in GT4 are much easier to control than the Lotus or even
the Cooper, but I think I will persevere.
I had a fantastic time last night following a Maclaren SLR watching the
popup speed brake as we went round and round in 8 minutes. I admit I
was driving a 6 litre SL Merc as well, but hey, its my game.
I've also discovered what a great game (not sim) it is to hotlap in.
Autumn Ring Mini in a Ruf 911, Subaru WRX & aforementioned Merc and
comparing the different approaches is just amazingly ***ive.
I've taken a break from GTR and haven't bought rFactor yet, so I've
been away from PC simming for a while. This GT4 thing, though, is
great fun and very immersive. I know the graphics aren't as good, or
the sound, or the accuracy, but I still play it all these months later.
I know some of you can't stand the GT series of games, but thankfully
you are in the minority anyway.
Cheers all
