Iam running in the CICC ICR2 league this year.  I just had to send back
my T2 AGAIN.  The upcomming race that I am going to miss because of this
will the the 4th CICC race I will not be able to race in this year
because of my often broken T2 wheel.  This is somewhat dissapointing.
That is all I have to say

Why are you sending it back? I agree the unit is somewhat fragile. The
pots, springs, bungee cords all have death written on them from day one.
But unless something is catastrophically wrong, just order parts and
repair it yourself. Thrustmaster should enclose a solder kit with each
wheel they sell along with an assortment of springs and pots. :-)
Thrustmaster engineers must have underestimated the popularity and
demands that these newer racing sims put on their product.  Thrustmaster
support, IMHO, has been excellent, although I wish I didn't need it so
often. ;-)

I'd love to get a T2 because I hate what I have, BUT CAN IT TAKE A
BEATING!

I don't know, maybe I spend way too much time in r.a.s. and not enough
time abusing my T1.  I had a spring break early on, but got quick
replacements from Thrustmaster and have since limited the travel of my
pedals and haven't had a spring break since.  I had my steering yoke
overhauled once.  Other than cleaning the pots on a semi-regular basis I
have had excellent service from my T1.  Maybe I'm lucky, but I think
just like anything else, it needs some tender loving care.  I've
received excellent use from my T1 for almost 3-1/2 years now.  And my
wife knows I spend way too much time in my virtual race cars. <g>

I don't know what you guys are doing, but my T2 has gone for over a year
and no problems at all.  I have never even taken it apart to clean it.  It
could be a little more rugged, but this is what we bought and this is what
we must use.  If you know it can break, stop doing what breaks it.  Pretty
simple solution.

Well, Ebonics, or whatever language you are trying to communicate in aside,
what he is saying is that is you don't mis-use your equipment it will last.
If you don't, it won't.  My T1 is 2 years old, and the T2 is 1 year old.
Both work perfect.  Simple enough for you?

My T1 is 2 years old, and the T2 is 1 year old.

Just because 2 products are from the same assembly line dosen't mean
that they will last equally long.  The fact remains that I was only
using my T2 for the purpose that it was made for, simluation racing.
Perhaps you are the person who dosen't understand.

It isn't what you were using it for, but probably more a matter of how it
was being treated.  With all the reports of broken springs, and dirty pots,
etc, etc, it isn't just you that is having this problem.  But, there have
also been serval people who, like me, have reported nothing but enjoyment
from theirs.  I am a thrustmaster fan, and will continue to be for as long
as they make Wheel/Pedal units.

You want something more durable, then lay out the bucks for the TSW or the
ECCI.  Don't buy a plastic unit and expect it to hold up to the same abuse
that the other, sturdier, 3 times more expensive units  are capable of.

I understand perfectly.  Mistreated equipment breaks.

For those of you who feel slighted, or insulted by my stance on this
issue....  well, that's your opinion.

But for the past 20 years I have had to maintain equipment that was
used/abused by people who constantly try to make it do things that it
wasn't designed for.   And, I have grown to mistrust operators in all
areas, whether it be with computer equipment or a tactical vehicle.  When
confronted as to how the equipment was damaged the most common reply is "
But Chief, it just broke! ".  Sure, sure it did.  Sign here.

It all depends on what you call 'racing'. If you mean 'yanking the wheel
all over the place because I don't have the steel nerves to control myself
when I make a dive for the wall', then your wheel will break when you race.

However, if by racing you mean 'getting a clean, smooth, ultrafast ride
without getting out of control, even when the ability to control something
is long gone because you're flying through the air towards a wall', then
your wheel will last a lifetime when you race.

Try to love your wheel. It makes a difference. <G>

No way... I've always used my T2 as gentle as possible (which 100
times more gentle than anyone I know) and still the springs brake off
every 4 months. It's just bad design.

Let me tell you however that there is no better wheel/pedals combo in
it's price class.

You can read many more experiences on my GP2 site at:

The T2 is a wonderful device. I've had one for three months and the gas
pedal spring finally got munched this morning. I called Thrustmaster and
they're sending out a couple new, sturdier springs along with new bungee
cords for the wheel. I must say, they're support is great. :) However,
don't bother trying to send an E-mail. Jim the technician said there
were around 300 or more E-mail messages still to be handled. A phone
call to (503) 615-3200 and you get your problem solved on the spot.
