IICC - Internet Indycar Championship Announced!
A new ICR series! Call for participants!
Due to the long break in the popular ICRS series hosted by
Ralf Southard and Tim Wortman (next race will coincide with
the PPG 1995 opener in March), we have decided to run an
interim season. We will use the opportunity to try a few new
things, as well as a totally different scoring mechanism. We
still would like to know a few things before we launch this
series.
This message outlines the basic idea of the series, and it
asks for input on specific
Basic Rules:
You will get points for
o hot laps
o racing average speed compared to other human drivers
o passing other cars
We will have free setup/chassis/engine choice, but you will
need to stick to your choice for the entire season with Indy
being an exception: just like in the real world, you may
elect to run a different engine there.
Racing conditions (Weather, Number and strength of opponents)
will be available at season start, October 28 for all 16
tracks. We modified the individual track.txt files to fix
known problems in opponent strength variations, allowing us to
run all races at the same 100% setting (you may want to use
our patch, even if you don't plan on competing in the series).
We will have deadlines for receipt of results starting 3 weeks
after the initial announcements, but people can join the
season at any time and even run races already in the books
(for them a late fee rule will apply).
Flexibility: You will have to run 1 race/week average if you
run the full championship, fewer if you decide to run only on
ovals or only on roadtracks (you can do several races in
advance).
The Season will be over before ICRS-III starts (early March).
Result files have to be send to the organizers via email or
have to be uploaded to an ftp site (your choice). We will
randomly request replays of hotlaps or race finishes for
verification, therefore ftp access is a plus. Uuencoded email
or files sent in on floppy disk by mail are other options)
The championship:
We will run complete statistics, allowing us to crown several
champions (similar to the Tour de France, where there is an
overall champ, a hill climbing champ, a sprint champ, etc..).
Whatever races you choose to run - they all will count towards
all these titles.
We will have champions for:
points winner overall
points winner ovals
points winner road/street
winner hotlaps overall
winner hotlaps oval
winner hotlaps road/street
winner race points overall
winner race points oval
winner race points road/street
passing bonus winner overall
passing bonus winner oval
passing bonus winner road/street
There will also be a team championship for those of you who
elect to run together. You won't be able to run the actual
race together (modem), but you are encouraged to share setup
and other experiences.
More explanations and rules will be released with the rules
and settings on October 28 (rec.autos.simulators, or ftp at
didnt.doit.wisc.edu, or email by request) Feel free to pass
along all the announcements you receive from us.
We plan on publishing a newsletter following each race
deadline. This publication will show race results,
statistics, comments and race reports. The drivers are
encouraged to write race recaps similar to the recaps ICRS
drivers have been submitting.
