Well Bruce two things that sorta tie this back to RAS. Avault.com has
a rebuttal by Origin. They too make it sound like both LB and EA had
different views of the future. So I guess we can say the split was
mutual.
But here is what bothers me.
Andy Hollis has not been mentioned at all, but I'm concerned for his
future, (and this is what impacts RAS) AH has become the Lord God King
of flight sim Publishers.(his early work goes back to the C-64 with Sid
Meir.) Longbow, Longbow2, F15IIISE etc were his babies and they mainly
focused on the higher end single sim products.(in other words, not the
arcade mass market stuff that the other group at Origin was producing)
A-10 Warthog was cancelled even tho it was in the final stages of
production. F18 will probably be the last SERIOUS(read gpl level) sim
from EA/Origin. Andy Hollis was re-assigned to look at producing a Wing
Commander Massively Multiplayer title. That title and about 20 other
Origin employees have been axed(avault.com) I'm assuming he's toast
also. So we see another totally separate computer game area that is
suffering from poor sales in the higher end of the product line. If the
Racing Sim area suffers a similar cutdown, will we ever see a Quality
high end product again?
I'll be the first to admit the quality level of the lower class sims
has increased greatly, and we might compare Porche Unleashed with the
last few USAF products and say the ARCADE level of sim is improving
too. But I think we are an industry in decline and the spendy
time-consuming products get the axe first. This does not fill me with
hope for the future of Sim Racing(back on topic...finally!)
