GPL = "FD" & "FG" Classes ---> Several Questions

The GMSS founders thought up FD & FG; FG is F3 motor on F1 chassis.  You can
participate in FG racing in GMSS or GPLF3R, both of which have a file
section with numerous setups by Ron Ayton.

The FG setups and setup help are here

Scroll over to the right to see the links.

A very fast F1 to FD setup change is to up the diff-ratio one notch higher.
I found for instance, that the GH2 setups become almost manageable in FD :)

also does FD racing, and I think SNRL also does it, don't have the link tho.

Zeke, all you 'gota know is FD is a blast! Enjoy!! Put that F2 engine
in the F1 chassis and see what fun it is to be able to catch a spin
before it happens and actually feel what it is like at Rouen to KNOW you
are in that hairpin at the bottom of the hill and DRIVE through it
instead of
hoping you won't go thunk against those buried tires. Original GPL is
the greatest, but FD is golden. FD is pure fun. Have fun!

---info cut for space---

The GPVL-F3 series uses the F2 chassis with the F3 engine.  We have
called this "FV".  Many of us after a few years of racing the F3's didn't
like ALL that GRIP in the F1/3 setup and weren't too sure about the nearly
no grip in the F3 setup.  So we compromised and run the F2 with the F3
engine.  Doing this has helped all of us stop trying to tip-toe through the
turns in hopes of not going too far and spinning and has helped us look more
at our line than our speeds.  Maybe sometime down the road I will like the
F1/3 setup, but for now there's still a bit too much grip in that for me :-)

Yeah, but why the *names* FD and FG? What do "D" and "G" stand for?

They were the first names of the chaps who came up with the classification
in thier league.  They did take quite a-bit of crapola from more traditional
users on this newsgroup but since they promoted the idea and had a league or
two involved, it seems to have stuck.
I would have preferred a slightly more cumbersome method, but one that is
infinately more precise.
Fd would/should be F1-2(f1 chassis, F2 motor)
Fg, and I hope I'm getting these right, would/should be
F1-3.  And for the really brave at heart there would be an F3-1.

It was supposed to be the end of the world the way some people were
talking, but as far as *I* am concerned, it brought the game back from
the dead.  I simply lack the ability to drive the F1 cars and the F2
were so twitchy as to be no fun at all.  FD is perfect, though -- just
forgiving enough to not be impossible but still a great challenge.

It can also work to use a straight F2 setup, simply by changing the
extension from (for example) .fe2 to .fe1 .

tho.

There's also very competitive FD racing every week in American Sim Racing
League's GPL division (http://www.asrl-racing.org/)
