I wondered what the fun was of driving in circles. After reading all
the answers of these e***d Americans, I got really curious.
So I bought indycar 2, converted the tracks to gpl and gave it a go.
And I must say: IT'S A BLAST!!!
This is the best possible training for online racing. No matter what
my position is, allways cars in front of me, behind me, and often on
both sides of me too. And quite often above and below me too :)

I still prefer road racing in a big way, but just for sheer fun oval
racing is great!

When's Nascar 3 coming out? :)

I was raised on oval racing. I like all form of motorsport. Never
understood why some people don't like ovals. As you noticed
constant action. You never get to take the same line through
a corner for an entire race. Each turn is different every time you
go through it.

If you think that is fun, the is a Dirt Track Racing sim that will have
a water truck wet down the track at intervals between heats and
mains that will change the track.

Enjoy. Short track is fun. Also check out your local real
short track. You can probably go racing for real for well under
$1000. Most have a hobby stock car class.

My theory is that road races who are used to seeing the cars parade
through a slow corner once every 2 minutes have seizures when they try
to watch cars at speed doing sub 20 second times. After 4 laps they lose
track of the positions for the entire field. Since they can't figure out
who is in first and second they get bored.

Just a theory!

I'm italian, and here in Europe the ovals are not so popular.
I started to appreciate them with Papy sims (ICR, ICR2, NASCAR, NASCAR2),
and now I understand the sense of this kind of tracks!
From the outside it would seem too easy driving a car in an oval, but you
have to brake, accelerate and steer without the slightest mistake, if you
want to be fast. In addition to that we must consider the very high speed of
these circuits, and the delicacy requested for driving extremely powerful
cars.
In an oval, for me, the battle is even more exciting than in a "traditional"
(for us, european) track.
I'm a NASCAR2 "driver" and I'm dying to buy N3, of course!

Agreed, Stefano. I couldn't grasp what this going around in circles business was
all about until I went to a CART round in Nazareth, PA in '89 just for the hell
of it. I mean, I don't go to the states that often.....and did I have a blast!
The race was just incredible, and from that moment on, I was hooked. All part of
a passion for motorsports, it's racing, whether it's on a road course, street
course or oval! :-)
