N2002 Bug's Need Fixin!!!

by Don Wilsh » Thu, 25 Apr 2002 04:40:15

1).    When I hosted a race and several people came in while qualifying they
all moved ahead of the
people that qualifued.

2).    I noticed that N2002 has never been calibrated for processors and
graphic card combinations.  I
run for example a 1.1GHZ with a Geforce 2 card.   When I get my setups from
Pete Reston who has a
Geforce 4 card and a 1.5GHZ card I have to change the cross weight by
over -100.  Otherwise the
RR heats to the extreme.   Only by moving the cross weight to -50 will the
car drive.   This isnt just
with me but with others that test the setups that have a system like mine..
This has been with us
since NASCAR 1.     I hope the reason that Shawn Wise is no longer with
Papyrus is he in fact
complained about these sort of quality problem and Papyrus didnt want to
hear him trying to make
this product right.  Go Shawn...

3).    Qualifying Bug.......     When you qualifly there is no consistency
as to how far you can complete
laps until you blow up.    I have made several laps at 100 tape and i have
had the same setup give
me as little as 1/2 lap with no damage...

I have at least 2 dozen more bugs that i will post here or find someone left
at Papyrus that can
accept bug reports

One that I saw today, 2 cars managed to be assigned the same number, screwed
the chat up as the server couldnt make out which was which and seemingly
randomly assigned one name or the other to the chat text, very spooky seeing
my own name cuss at drivers and then having to type "I didn't say THAT,
wasn't ME" - which was pointless as then 2 seconds later the 'other'
duplicate would same "No, it was me" - all the while with the same
number/name attached, any other drivers that were not aware of the
duplication must have thought I had gone totally bananas

Nearly caused a serious identity crisis I can tell you :)

Vennt.

Do you mean they moved ahead since joinging late or they qualified better
than the ones that had been practicing earlier. There used to be a weather
bug that allowed late entries to enjoy better weather than everyone who was
connected prior to Q. Dunno, unsure of the specific problem you are citing.
We've had guys join up right at Q and honestly didn't do so well since they
didn't get any practice in before they had to turn  hot laps...

I've heard this and still don't buy it, but it could be true I guess. I
share setups with team mates with all sorts of differing gear (AMDs Intels,
differing speeds, GF2-GF4 etc)and we all seem to turn the same lap times and
get the same tire wear and performance from them. I don't know what to say
here, I've never seen this and share setups and use other people's setups
all the time.

First 2 days I had 2002, I could not complete 2 Q laps without toasting an
engine. I found the trick to it and have not lost an engine since (and yes I
have gotten a pole or two since finding the "trick" to Q in 2002). The trick
is to reach maximum velocity at the drop of the green. If you push hard from
pit stall to green flag, you will lose the engine half the time. Easing to
the green flag is the trick, hit your highest RPMS right at the S/F line at
the start of your first timed lap. I don't think this is so much a bug
really, just a lesson in saving your stuff for the "money" laps and not
burning up your stuff before hand. This trick works at Marty and Coca Cola
and the RCs BTW.

They never qualled.. just started in front of those that did qualify....
Several races I have been in allowed all the late comers to
start in front of those that did qualify..

Let me explain..   When I was a beta tester I insisted the developer give us
an
AUTO LEAVE capability to measure this.   This ensures that all computers
and graphic card combinations worked the same.   NASCAR has always
had the FPS cross weight problem.. DW  Julian Data can explain if
interested..

Another part in this puzzle could be your controlers as well. I switched
from the old LWFF to a MOMO and had to rework my setups because they drove
so different. I know with the Ratbag games the slower your system was the
faster you were online.

Well I doubt that I'll be making any of the races. As much as I'd like to
the early switch from Sunday to Saturday pretty much knocked me out of it.
:(  As Spock would say "The needs of the many outway the needs of the
few"(something like that anyway).  For now I'll just have to make do with
reading the race reports.

Thanks

Really depends on the venue, but I have run 100% at places like Talladega
and Daytona, road courses require less, speedways are usually ok with
90-100% depending on the temparture. Short tracks really aren't affected by
tape as any downforce that tape may give you will not appear until you are
going well over 100mph close to 140mph more than likely, so I will usually
not tape all the way up at a shortie just prevent any problems.

I can usually offset having to use less tape by lowering the rear spoiler
some. It loosens you up, but I like driving slightly to moderately loose
setups.
