For those wondering how Mitch's daughter is getting along after her serious
car crash, she is doing really well and Mitch is racing her around the
hospital in a wheelchair (reliving Days of Thunder no doubt!)

It looks as though she is recovering remarkably well and may be coming home
in the next few days.

Sounds like really good news.

Cheers

Just this afternoon (Mon) we brought Roseann home.  She is healing very fast
and everything will be perfect given a bit more time.  Ill post a few pics
of the ordeal on RSC if interested.  I can't thank everyone enough for all
the thoughts and prayers.  Words just cant accurately describe my
appreciation but rest assured I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.

Just sitting here at my desk looking at all the work I was right in the
middle of when this occurred 13 days ago and how little that all really
matters in the big scheme of things.  If you have kids/family go right now
and give them a hug and tell them how much you love them ok :)  Believe me
things can change instantly with a dreaded phone call.

Thanks again fellas and cya RASCAR boys at bristol this week!

Mitch

Hi Mitch:

I'm glad things are going well.

I've noticed your absence from RAS, but until now I didn't
realize the serious situation that caused it.

    Well said.

Good news, Mitch! I hope she'll fully recover from the accident. BTW,
from all the descriptions of her injuries I was wondering if she was
wearing a seatbelt at the time or was it a totally different kind of
accident?

All the best, uwe

Yes she was wearing a seatbelt.  She was conditioned from birth to wear it
and it saved her life.  It amazes me to think back to my childhood and we
NEVER wore a seatbelt.  In fact I didnt want the gov telling me I had to
wear a seatbelt when they passed the seatbelt law back in the 80's.  My how
this changes my perspective ;)   If she had an air bag the only serious
injury would have been her leg/femur.  Regardless I still feel like the
luckiest man alive.

I recall a journey in the early 80s with a mother of two who never wore a
belt and had to do an emergency stop. Her hand came out to hold back the
passengers in the back. She said it was a natural reaction as she had two
young children normally in the back who would not wear belts. I tried to
explain to her that she wasn't going to stop 40 pounds of child travelling
at 30mph with her hand especially if she was already making her way through
the windscreen but it fell on deaf ears.

I must admit I found it strange at first to wear a belt - when the laws came
in the UK my car was old enough to be exempt, yet soon after it felt ***
not to.

I feel guilty sometimes for not putting on Hannah's (my 4 and a half
year old's girl) helmet when I take her to kindergarten by bike every
morning, with her sitting on the bike frame in front of me, cradled in
my arms, uphill, in the lowest possible MTB gear, at around 8km/h if
we're in a hurry ;-)

"Congrats" to the luckiest man alive!

I grew up in the Country, so it took a few years for me to catch on to the
Seat Belt thing.  Been wearing them for 25 years now.  Luckily I've never
had a reason for them to come into use, much less an Airbag.

Airbag's still scare me a bit.  I've seen a few friends get beaned pretty
good by those things.  My truck has them though.  I keep the passenger side
one disabled (Rangers have a key switch you can do this with) because my
Golden's ride up there sometimes to the Vet if I have both in the truck.
Only room for one in the back :)

My Dad would never, ever wear a seat belt.  When he was in his early 20's,
he drove a car off a bridge or something and was thrown from the car.  He
would not have survived if he had not of been ejected.  For that reason, he
could never be convinced.

That's how the story goes, at least...
