TerraServer - My local 1/4 mile paved oval

Hey kids,

With URLs for all these glorious international road race courses being
posted, and in light of the recent chatter about DTR, I thought it would be
appropriate to post the Terra server URL for the 1/4 mile NASCAR-sanctioned
(Featherlite Modified) track in the town I grew up in, Agawam,
Massachusetts.

It is (was) called Riverside Park Speedway and is adjacent to an
amu***t park, also seen in the Terraserver images.  The track was closed
permanently this year after 51 years of operation.

This is of interest partly for the folks who had never seen or heard of
Figure-8 racing, as this track had a figure-8 event after each night of
modifieds, late-models, pro stocks, strictly stocks, etc.  One may see the
"X" crossing through the infield.  Unfortunately, the Terraserver chops the
track in half at all the different resolutions, so I stitched the images
together and stuck it up here:

It's kinda neat to see a humble, tiny little oval after looking at all
these huge road courses.  Puts that 'grassroots' American oval racing thing
in a nice perspective.  The track's official website is here:

I went after finding this track on Terraserver back in the spring, before
hearing the bad news.

I've got some pictures from a photographer who has visited the track on a
couple occasions since it's closed and took some pics of the place being
dismantled. Considering I've been going there fairly regularly since
somewheres round 1986 and my dad's been doing the same since around 1950,
they're not pretty pictures.

pics, I'd have to convert them from TIFFs (HYOOGE!) and put them on my site
first.

Getting further off subject, where's your planned hangout for the coming
season? I'm leaning towards making Claremont Speedway my weekly track, but
Waterford's in the running too. I'll still be going to Monadnock Speedway on
Sundays/Fridays as my schedule allows, since my #1 priority is covering the
Busch North Series.

Speaking of Busch North, there's a young fella out there somewhere painting
up beautiful Busch North cars for NASCAR3. I can't find the URL right now at
work but I have it at home. They're worth a look.

Speaking of sim racing, 90% of the reason I got NASCAR Legends is to race at
Thompson. I'm no Jeff Fuller but I manage to run OK there.

But I digress.
