ICR2 again

by Olav K. Malm » Mon, 07 May 2001 20:24:44

Just for fun and for a little bit of preparation for todays race at
Nazareth, I fired up ICR2 again. Had to patch it for the windows
version to make it work with WinME. I also installed the 2001 carset
which looked very very nice.

I still get surprised by this sim. The driving model is ancient but it
still gives a lot of clues about what the car is doing, and a slide is
still possible to catch. I miss the wheelspin though.

But I have a question. When racing Indy, I get blue texture
corruptions on the walls, anyone know how to fix ?

And I take noone have found out how to make the V5's FSAA to work with
it :)

whisper : CART Racing 2 please :)

Nope....I bugged the 3dfx mercilessly to dig into it...not realizing ONE
VERY IMPORTANT FACT.  For FSAA to work, the program must be a 3d accelerated
program.
Sadly...and I was soooo hoping ICR2 would work with FSAA I didn't even think
of that.   ICR2 is a 2d program.
drive up to any wall and you'll see what I mean, pixel..not the blurring or
shading we've come to expect.  Of course there IS the Rendition 3d version
but that is in NO WAY compatible with 3dfx so applying FSAA to that is also
impossible.  The only possible way to get that done would be to privately
rewrite the code to run under opengl or D3d.  Since there are two very good
looking substitutes out there, Cart Heat and Cart 2001,  I don't see the
point anymore.
I too hope/wish/chant for a new Cart Sim with UPDATED tracks...Anyone who
thinks the old ICR2 tracks are accurate is....well bonkers.  Until Papy gets
bored with tin toppers going around in circles...it looks like were stuffed
for now.
