I was just curious, has anyone tried the Saitek R4 force-feedback
wheel/pedals?

If Logitech would put a freakin' shifter on their wheel, they'd get about
95% of the r.a.s. fanatic sales.  Is it that difficult or expensive?  Isn't
NASCAR the most popular form of racing in the good ol' USA?  Do NASCAR
drivers use F1 paddles??

Hello....anyone home at Logitech!!!!!!

Marc.

I don't understand why you would want a shifter!  Using paddles is so
much easier.  Did it ever occur to you that you are not really racing
NASCAR with your 14" monitor??
So bending a few rules is no problem.

Yup -- the pedals aren't the best, but it's a pretty nice wheel
overall, IMO.  Check out my review:

Enjoy!

I guess people like you are who Logitech listens to.  Fortunately there are
others (Guillemot, ACTLabs, Saitek, Thrustmaster) who know better.

Marc.

When you are used to a stick shifter, it's just as fast and natural as
paddles, and you're lap times are just as good. It's more immersing and fun
to drive N3 with a stick. Of course, you could drive it in automatic and
just not bother with shifting all together.

I used to own a Saitek R4 Force Feedback wheel. Unfortunately it broke down.
My local supplyer couldn't get me a replacement wheel, so I got myself a
Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback wheel (MSFF).

To put it briefly: FF is better on the Saitek, but the pedals are not
suitable for demanding games like GPL. If you major interest is Colin McRae
rally (CMR), then the Saitek is a better option than the MSFF, because of
Saitek's stronger FF. The stick shifter is also an option worth paying for.
I completely lost interest of CMR after switching from Saitek to MSFF. Too
bad, really, because CMR provided me with considerably amounts of fun.

I read that the Saitek uses the same FF internals that the MSFF wheel
uses, it just looks different on the outside......can anyone confirm
or deny this?

Yes it does use the same force feedback unit as the msff. i found that at
www.gamesspot.com so blame them if it is wrong.

Personaly i agree with slot. the shifter is great to use and provides a
realistic sence. However i also like the flexibilty of being able to use
paddles as well. The ferrari wheel has both so it is a good choice.
Ps i know the act-labs has both but you have to by the shifter.
