MicroProse Grand Prix II - weekly reminder
==========================================

This message is posted on every Saturday to rec.autos.simulators,
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.misc and rec.auto.sport.f1. Although it's slightly
off-topic in r.a.s.f1, people keep talking about the game in this group
so I think this message can be posted there also.

The Grand Prix II FAQ is brand new and I'm still adding news to it. If
you have any news or question you can mail me (Wilfred van der Deijl)

There is a HTML-version of the FAQ at
     http://www.racesimcentral.net/
     (watch it: it's case sensitive)

When I'm finished writing the first version of the FAQ I will create a
text-version that will be posted to rec.autos.simulators regularly. Until
then only the HTML-version is available.

There is more Grand Prix II information on the web at:

  Formula One Grand Prix FAQ
    http://www.racesimcentral.net/~dgymer/f1gp/faq/faq.html

The Grand Prix II Home Page
    http://www.racesimcentral.net/~dgymer/gp2/home.htm

  MicroProse
    http://www.racesimcentral.net/

IMPORTANT: Grand Prix II is not out yet, so it's very hard to come up
with hard facts about the game. This means that some
information in the FAQ might prove incorrect when the game
is released. I try to use only the information that looks
reliable, to prevent all kinds of rumors ending up in the FAQ.

Well heres some news for you, there taken the ***y network support out,
in favour of a `data expansion pack` which we all know, will never be
released.

Gutted is not the word.

I agree!!!

We have now managed to increase our Network get-to-gethers to 11/12
players, its getting difficult to find games that can accomodate us
all.  We curently base our play around ROTT, but we are going to try
Descent II this time too.  I tested Screamer last night, it seems fun,
but starts to die over three players.... any ideas on games?

Kind Regards - Brian

Well, don't quote me on this... but I heard that MPS will release a
standalone version of GP2 with Networking stuff under the title of
GP2 Network! I also think that there will be some way to play GP2
across the forthcoming Wireplay system [An on-line *** service from
British Telecom].

Too right!!! I was really pissed at Papyrus for skipping IPX support in
favour of pushing people toward their US BASED on-line service. So what
do us people in the rest of the world do? I am the only racing fan in
our network "group" but the others would have bought ICR2 ONLY to race
IPX - another SEVEN sales for Papyrus if they had included IPX support.

I hope the info on GP2 is wrong, I've wanted an IPX racing game for ages
(and let's face it, Screamer wasn't it...!). Since any info on GP2 is
pure speculation so far, I'll wait and hope. The only "official" info
I've seen is the press release from Spectrum-Holobyte stating that
network support WOULD be included as an add-on. If that happens, it's
good enough for me.

Cheers!

Ya but didn't they say that GP Manager was going to support Network
play?  There's not modem or null-modem multi-play. Just a multi-player on
the same computer thing.

How do you get into that?  I borrowed a copy at the weekend to see
if the bugs really make it unplayable (my feeling is unfortunately that
they do).  I read the readme about multiplayer, and it says to click on
icons on the team selection screen after long-term contract, but I
didn't have any icons!

The recent issue of PC Gamer which contains a full review of
GP2 states that two-player modem play is included in the
game (and why not - it was included in F1GP), with the
possiblilty of a network upgrade to be released by Microprose
later in the year...

 Hello Los:
I emailed Microprose some time ago with this same
question and they said that it most definately will have
two-player modem play.
The only real question that remains is when can I pick it
up at my local software store.

  Hello Fraser
I don't know if you remember but the two-player modem
program included with version 1 of World Circiut didn't
work very well if you could get it to work.
That was totally fixed in the V1.05 update.
