I cant get nascar to start up after i downloaded a car set for a series.
First:Thanks to the 2 guys who answered my first post; i tried what you said
but it still didnt work . Here are the details.  Yes, all the subdirectories
in the Cars directory are named after the *.dat counterpart. And yes they all
have a valid drivers2.txt file. And no there are no stray files in the Cars
dir  or the subdir's for that matter. The message I get when I try to start
the game goes something like this "Cars dir is incomplete or insufficient
memory". When I originally loaded the new car set i failed to make sure the
*.dat file and the dir had the same name-they didn't. I, however , was able to
start the game that time, but now it will not start. What gives?  I tried
changing the name of the dir to match the DAT file----did not work. I moved it
out of the Cars dir to see if that would restore the game ---did not work. I
am out of ideas. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  I cannot simply
reload the whole game right now-that is not an option. Because me and I guy
from work split the cost for the game and he has it right now. i will not see
him for over a week. Meantime i'm in three series on Hawaii and one of them
races tonite. So any help --------Please-------I will dance at your wedding!
Thanks.

Go to the Nascar dir and edit Gameopts.cfg. Look for the name of the of
the car set in the file. Backspace it out and replace it with one you know
works. Restart the game and since you renamed the *dat file to the correct
name try reloading it.
If it still doesn't work at least now you can get your game working again.
