The sim racing community has made the big-time! In the February 1998 issue
of "Stock Car Racing" Magazine, there's an article on NASCAR 1 and 2. There's
pictures of Tony Johns, Matt Marsala, and a few others whose names I don't
recognize (they *are* in the credits of the sims though...). The article goes
into a little detail of what it takes to make the sims as realistic as
possible. It refers to the NASCAR Pro wheel as "top-of-the-shelf".
Steve Park, 1997 BGN Rookie-of-the-Year, commented on how the sim helped him
win three races in 1997, as he had never been to a lot of the tracks. Park
says (quote), "I wouldn't even call it a game because there's no game to it.
It's a simulation." (unquote). Park also says he runs 100% length races to
practice passing patience and pit stops.
Even IWCC Cars gets some credit for their paint jobs.
I just wish that more of the add-ons (tracks, off- and online series,
3do-edited cars [Modifieds, Late Models, Trucks, etc] had gotten a little
recognition...
Oh well...anyways, check out the Feb '98 issue of SCR!
