ICR2: windy.exe upgrade problems

by Terrill Yuh » Wed, 23 Jul 1997 04:00:00

As soon as ICR2 came out, like a conditioned lab rat, I bought it.  Of
course a little bit later, the version that runs under Win95 comes
out.  Anyhow, I applied the DOS patch to my version before putting on
the windy.exe upgrade.  I can't seem to get it to work.  It installs
correctly (or at least it looks that way).  I get errors when I try
and run the windy.exe.  First one is "Can't load garage stamps roll".
Next is "the compressed bitmap system could not be initialized".  And
lastly "the core game environment could not be initialized."

The DOS version still runs fine and I can run NCR2 from Win95.

Thanks for any help or suggestions,

Terrill

ICR2 in Win95...not a good thing.  =P

For the patch to work properly, the DOS version needs to be
fully upgraded to v1.02.  Use a fresh install of the sim, but
remember to save any carsets, setups, or replays in a seperate
and safe directory.  Also after all the DOS patches are applied,
make sure none of the files are "read-only", and then apply the
DOS>Win95 patch.

Cheers!

Why not just use regular DOS version, yet run it in an MS-DOS shell
through windows...
Wanna know how??
Open up notepad, and type in either:
indycar.exe
indycar.exe -h
Save the file in your ICR2 directory...save it as a *.bat file...then,
whenever you want to run ICR2 through windows, go to explorer and
double-click the icon...when you are done playing, exit the game as usual,
and your back in windows...neat little trick I learned from a friend, hope
it works for you!!

did you notice that the patch needs to be run on a fresh indy install
mat.
