Pardon the semi-spam, but this should be of interest to some of you here.
I've been playing around with this and it looks like an interesting tool to
help achieve good connections for online ***:

=====================

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Pro Pinger -- The Gamers/Monitors Connection Tool

VIPERSOFT Pro Pinger V2.0.11 is a program that allows for monitoring of
internet connections and quality of those connections. This program pings
the IP/DNS numbers about once a minute. This program was designed and
developed by Paul Graham and conceived by Don Wilshe.

There are many uses for this program, such as:

1). Auto Racing - NASCAR 3, Burnout, Powerslide, Formula 1, GP 500.

Have you ever wanted to go NASCAR3 racing and wasnt quite sure where the
racing would be best for you? Well we have a solution for you and its called
ProPinger. Now you can load up all the NASCAR 3 racing servers and knows in
advance who has the quality connections for you. You can also monitor the
connection over days or weeks and see a history of the service. Now you dont
have to get warpped anymore.

One of the biggest problems when racing on-line is stale data. If you are
going 200mph in a corner side by side. You have to know that that car is
where you think it is. If you have a poor conenctions you can suffer and
wreck alot of people, not good. Also in games like drag racing where
reaction times and line quality are critical to good competitions. Now the
Race Admins have the abiliity to look at the group of racers and
pre-determine if someone has a bad connection or must reconnect. Now the
admin has a tool to DQ the bad apples so to speak. Now the admins can see if
you are coming from AOL!!!

2). Shooters - Quake, Descent, Rainbow Six, etc.

One of the common complaints when people get into these kinds of contest is.
Well the reaason i didnt do well against you is because you had a T-1. When
you are ready to battle we have a simple solution now. All the competitors
in the clans run this program. That way you will all know the connection
quality between competitors. If you have a marginal connection to a player,
you might have someone else in the clan take him on.

3). Site monitoring

Although this program was designed for TCP *** and their related line
quality connections. We are finding applications now for monitoring IP
accross the net. If you want to make sure your web sites are available to
the public, now you have a tool. Im sure a logging version will be available
or could be soon.

BETA VERSION

Lets us state that this program is our first release of this program. We are
learning every day new things about how to use and improve it. Any
suggestions and improvements would certainly be appreciated. You certainly
can expect a new and revised version shortly so come back for the lastest
versions.

So Brian...would the reason you replied to this post be just so that you
could get your site's url in the signature file? Tsk, tsk...

See ya in the pits,

I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how
long it's been since I've forgotten anything.

Thanks for the tip John. This applies directly to many of us and imo in this
case is not spam seeing as how one of the "apps" shown is an auto simulator. My
suggestion is to not respond personally to shortsighted boneheads, we'll do it
for you.
Thanks again, JM

Brian:

1). Auto Racing - NASCAR 3, Burnout, Powerslide, Formula 1, GP 500.<snip>

And what would those NASCAR 3 racing servers be? All 2 of them that everyone
already knows about?  And what does this program do that  ping.exe. doesn't
already do? ( Curious customer, ready to spend $5 wants to know)
Thanks for your response,
Brian

Brian, you need to get out more.   if you look at the racing servers around
the
world there are easily in excess of 50.  Now you tell me you have ping
program that can monitor all 50 of these at once.. hehe..

> Yea, this is interesting and I too think that it may pertain to this news

> problem is that you need the address that you are connecting to..  I mentioned a
> program called the "Ping Plotter" before, and I have used it a lot to test

> the server... maybe its not won.net, but YOUR connection...

Addition,  the ping plotter tells you the routing information on exactly how your
connection is routed! this will tell you where you are loosing your connection.
Sometimes there are 5 routers involved, sometimes 20.  Your connection is only as
good as the weakest link. It will show packet loss as well.

% Brian,

% Believe it or not, there ARE other sims out there that people use for online
% racing besides N3 -- and many aren't as well-organized as N3 with dedicated
% servers, either, so ping utilities like this can be useful.

% Also, ping.exe provides the same basic function, but only for one IP address
% at a time, and not with a nice, easy-to-use graphical interface.  Visit the
% Web site and check out the screen shots -- you might find it interesting.
% <G>

Though "billed" as a product for "Ultima Online" it works perfectly for
other online games.  Monitors all hosts at once, provides traceroute
information and well generate reports to send to ISP's with problems.
Works fine for me and GPL.  Just edit the ini and server.cfg file and
you will be in business for your favorite online game.
