I found this one of Watkins Glen...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I'd love to have a satellite photo of Monza, and of all the GPL tracks for that
matter.

Are there any more?

For all those that asked about the "BOOT",  there it is!  Unfortunately
this map doesn't show the hills :(

Interesting images. I see that the track has changed a lot since the GPL
time period. The last third from the Speed Trap through the Big Bend to the
pit straight has been altered almost beyond recognition. Looks like the pits
have moved quite a bit too. When did all those changes happen?

1971.  The speed trap strait is still visible when your at the track.
It's the back side of the garages.  I believe, (if you were at the track
today) the big bend is the paved part that curcles the garage.  The old
track from that point all the way down to today's turn one is still
there too, although the whole thing has been paved to almost non
recognizable proportions.  The Boot was placed there at the same time.
The chacain at the end of the back strait is still there as well.

October 2, 1948 was the first race at the Glen on a 6.6 mile course.
The start was right in the village of Watkins Glen and traveled the 6.6
miles on pavement, stone, and dirt.  This also included a rail way track
where the cars used to jump. The GP race was eight laps and the formula
junior was four laps. The starting grid was decided by way of a lottery
instead of a practice qualifying session. frank grizwald won the race.

After a number of accidents in 1951, the Race Communications
Association was formed...
http://members.xoom.com/rca/welcome/welcome.htm

1952, Fred Wacker's Alerd slid into the spectators killing a seven year
old and injuring many others. This in it self didn't end the street
racing, but matters directly relating to it did. (at least for racing
right in town)

1953, A new $32,000 4.6 mile street course was built and paved just a
few days before the 1953 race.  This track was built just down the road
a touch from the current location.

1956, a 2.3 mile (GPL track) $150,000 permanent race course was built.
**1957 was the first NASCAR grand national race at this track with Buck
Baker's Chevy winning the race.
**1961 was the first US Grand Prix at this track with George
Constantine in a Ferrari winning the race.
1971,  The track was reconfigured to the present day look.  Between 71
and today there have been many extras added and taken away. Most notably
to me was the chicane between Turn 2&3.  I loved watching the cars jump
the curbs there :)   In the 1980's the McDonalds inner loop was added.
since then, other then odd eye candy, nothing has changed with the
configuration of the track.

Much thanks for this. Using your directions I was able to discern the hint
of a shadow of a ghost of the old curcuit layout :) They *did* do a good job
of paving over it ,didn't they? :)

David (who wishes there were satellite images of all the old courses in
additon to WG and Spa)

I think the old pit straight, esses, straight and the loop-chute area are
still pretty much intact from the old days.  Walking around about 10 years
ago, it was still pretty easy to see where the old pits were.

The Esses all the way through the speed trap is still being used.  What
got changed is the speed trap was made sharper.  The new T1 was moved
north east a bit.  The new pit strait joined the two together.  Plus the
track has been made wider.

The old Pit turn is still in use as a walk way.  And the old chacain is
used as an emergency access road.
