Whatever happened to the "side-view" mirrors in NR2?

Whatever happened to the "side-view" mirrors in NR2?

Remember the rear-view mirror in the older versions of Nascar Racing? The
left and right edges showed a side view, as if you were looking left or
right. I thought this was a great idea as it makes up for the inherent
limitations of sim driving.

I wonder why it was dropped? It enabled me to see exactly how close I was to
other cars without losing situational awareness. Of course, it's not
realistic in the purist's sense, but certain physical limitations have to be
adjusted for.

I just checked in N4 and my mirrors are 3-way.
Just like the older N3 and NLegends.

Check your settings. I don't exactly remember where
it was. I think there's a key command to toggle
through different versions of the rear view mirror.

I'm sure a search could turn up something.

N4 and N2K2 both have the "interior" of the car instead of the older
"Panoramic" type mirror. It still works in the same mannor though as you can
"see" out the sides when the car is coming up on the side of you. It takes a
little getting used to at first but it is the same concept.

I thought that was just an interior graphic overlaid on top of the normal
view. I'll have to check this out.

Well, after looking, I have to say that the rear view mirror in Nascar 4 and
2002 are not the same as the old style "side view" on the outside edges of
the mirror.

When I hit the "N" key, all that happens is the interior of the car
disappears, but the view itself doesn't change at all. It's just not the
same as the old side view mirrors, which I thought were a great way to
overcome an inherent limitation in a driving sim.
