Ta muchly,

Well, if I understand it correctly, instead of having bunch of car sets,
each with 39 (?) cars, you'll have one big car set that might have hundreds
of cars. Then, you can pick and choose cars to go into a car set. So, for
example, let's say that Loy Allen doesn't make the field one week, but Mike
Skinner does, you can create an index with just those changes, without
having a complete duplicate of the car set.

This is even more important when you consider the NRL. Ideally, you'd like
to have cars for all the people you normally race against. That way, when
you jump in a race with someone, you can recognize their car on the field.
At the same time, you don't want to have to download everybody's car every
time you join a race (30 cars x 15K/car = 450K at 4.5K/sec = 100 secs or
nearly 2 minutes). So stuff them off into the car set cross-indexed by the
driver's name.

I would think Papyrus would have some standard cars to sub for those that
you don't have locally and don't choose to download, say for pickup races
where you might race against somebody once. You certainly don't want to
have to download everybody's car (currently 2300 drivers x 15K/car = 34.5M
and certain to get worse with local access).

Hopefully, I'm not too far off the mark here.
