GP2 locks up???

by Ric » Mon, 30 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Help!!!!!!! I just purchased  GP2 by Micro Prose.  I have a Packard Bell
P133 w/32 mb Ram and what ever sound/video card the PB comes with!

The game runs fine and doesn't seem slow or anything, but all of a
sudden (every three lap race) the system stops, the sound freeezzzzzes
at one point over and over and the screen goes black! The only method to
get it unlocked is to hit escape, this brings Windows 95 back with the
GP2 is in the task bar, hit the GP2 task bar, and the game takes off
(with a 3 sec delay for the monitor to go!) I ran this same exact
game/cd on a Dell P120, w/16mb ram and the game never froze once!

Does anyone know the prob??
TIA

Ric,
GP2 is not designed for Win95.Try running the game from DOS.

I think that you should install it under DOS, as the game is intended for
DOS.  I have the same PB computer you have and I have no problems runing
it under DOS.

Yeah,

Run it straight from DOS instead of WIN95.

Your computer maybe going into energy savings mode which the DOS game
will not like at all.  Joystick feedback will not keep a computer
active.  Try turning off the energy savings or setting the time to
shutdown to much longer than you play the game.

Try and do 'Shutdown' and 'Restart in DOS Mode' and run it from there.
It wasn't made for Win95.
If that doesn't help then it is probably a hardware conflict (mis-setup,
etc). We can't help if we don't know your hardware.

Good luck,

GP2 is not a Windows 95 game so running it in windows 95 is not a good
idea it will crash every time. The only way to make sure it does not
crash is to run it in MSDOS mode or MSDOS 6.22 if you have it. I have
setup my windows 95 setup with an option to load my old dos 6.22.
Remember if you are going to use a previous version of msdos you need to
have an autoexec.bat which loads all your sound and cdrom drivers.

This is not true.
The original game has *never* crashed when I run it in Win95. What DID happen
was that it crashed when saving a game after using one of those '97 carsets (and
OLNY when using such a carset).
It is true that running from Win95 costs you about 1.5-2 fps though...
