Simulated Racing Peaked with *Hard Drivin'*

My friend said that no racing game has improved on *Hard Drivin'* in the
sense that today's racing games have much better graphics, but limit you
to the given track far more strictly than *Hard Drivin'* did.

Not only is that true, but I've been thinking about the more
realistically-textured games like *Daytona* and I've realized that I
*like* the abstract, simplified, polygon style of graphics better.  That
style peaked with *Virtua Racing*, where even *your hands on the steering
wheel* were simulated, and even *the blades of grass* when you fly
off-track were simulated.  However, *Virtua Racing* is inferior on the
freedom-of-movement criterion.

He may have a point cause Hard Drivin' had a clutch also. except for

I spent more than a few dollars in the arcade the other day, and played Hard
Drivin' and Daytona 500, among other games. Hard Drivin' is still the best game
as far as gameplay goes. If it had updated graphics to meet or beat Daytona's,
i'd be in driving heaven.
