If you get the v1.5 sound pack from chad (available on the BHMS
website), the announcers voice isn't NEARLY as obtrusive.

Hi folks

N4 is enjoyable! But (not being American?) I would like to get
rid of the pathetique (in the French sense, not English "pathetic"!)
voice saying "Gentlemen, start your engines"? Somebody wrote that
you have to change the name of a voice file. But the Sound directory
seems to have only dat-file. Should I unpack it to find the file?
Cannot I only add an empty file to the directory? By what name?

Thanks in advance!

I, like you, Arto, knew where to come for expert advice....I asked that
question here a month ago! And merely passed along the info to you......Good
racing!   Ed

Arto....

Record "Gentlemen, start your engines," in French...or however your
countrymen call the drivers to race........send it to me (standard wave
sound format.....as in "Windows recorder".....and I'll make it work in N4
and send it back to you.

There, you see.....not all Americans are jerks!  ....lol

Thanks for that John. If only i could rid myself of all the other
electronic voice that continually pester me :(.

The other day while driving home from work, my car told me it was due
for a major service. On arriving home and placing my diner in the
microwave, the device told me my meal would be ready in 15mins.

As I settled down to watch tv, I decided to tape something on the other
channel, only to be told by the vcr that there was insufficient room on
the tape currently in the machine.

So I decided on a little music instead, I placed cd in the tray and the
cheeky hifi told me the cd was in need of a clean. By this time the
microwave was calling me with the news that diner was ready.

I had my meal and reckoned on an early night. A quick shower first
though, the shower unit kindly asking me what temperature a would like
the water.

Eventually my head hit the pillow, whereupon the bed side lamp told me
to go out and kill ***s!

Cheers

Gerry

Hey, I have one of those bedlamps, too!  The only difference is that
mine tells me to go out and set off high-explosives in heavily-populated
public gathering places.
