Driver control problem

Driver control problem

The game Driver is great but I can't make the accelerator control work
properly (I'm using a flight yoke that's the same as a joystick - works
perfectly in Need for Speed and Midtown Madness).
The throttle control works but it's either fully on or fully off, with
nothing in between. Surely this can't be right? It makes accurate speed
control pretty well imposssible. If the programmers have used the
joystick third axis control as a crude on-off device then they should be
shot! It's correctly calibrated in Windows controller setup.
  Any ideas? Many thanks.
  Best regards,
    Chris

Well Chris, you won't believe it, as we all didn't believe it:
Driver is using digital controls! I think I've never seen that since
Geoff Crammonds great "Stunt Car Driver", but this was in the late
80's...
Maybe GT Interactive calls this "nostalgic" ???

The only way you can adjust your speed is pressing the key that is
called "Tempomat" in the german edition ("cruise control" in english?).

Quite poor at the end of 2nd millenium, isn't it?

Have fun

Well, someone get out the gun because it's true. You're either flooring it
or stomping the brakes to the max.
That's why Driver has that 'Cruise' button to sorta make up for the digital
(on/off) controls.

Yepp, that's how it is and why I'm using the keyboard for this game.
It's not better with the keyboard, but I don't have to hook up the
wheel. Hopefully, they'll patch the silly controls.

Yes, they should be shot.

Ronald (and Martin), thanks for the replies. There are two other
control problems, the steering dead band, and the inability to assign
keyboard commands if you select joystick. Did it not occur to them that
some joysticks only have two buttons? It's a great game and they're
obviously talented people. So how on Earth can they do things that are
so mind-numbingly dumb? I shall be sending an email to GTI to let them
know what I think and to ask them what they're doing about it!
  Many thanks.
  Best regards,
