Drag Racing Simulation Games - Burnout, PCE, NIRA and IHRA.. It was great while it lasted...

Im sorry to report that it appears that Bethesda is out of the drag racing
*** business.   They no longer have Brent Erickison and or Jason
Glover on staff as the Northwest Development Division was terminated.

I had the great pleasure along with Julian Data in the development of
BURNOUT, PCE, NIRA and IHRA.   I just hope that some company
comes along and continues the effort.    Thanks Julian and the 40 odd
beta testers that worked on all these products.

NHRA could of been a great product except for Tony Simmerman.  He was
the developer of NHRA.   His problem was that he didnt understand that
so called downtime was the meat in the sim racing sandwich.  Either did
Moto1.Net when the picked up Tony and just about terminated him.

If there is any company that would like to take advantage of the experience
and software we have available to continue this.. Please contact me as
there is a great opportnunity available.

If the product doesn't get picked up, who owns the code?  A quality NHRA sim
would be interesting to me, and I would at least like to see it go open
source.

Phillip:

MOTO1.NET owns the NHRA game and rights..   Bethesda started the drag racing
series with the final product being IHRA.   I have the source code for the
phyiscs
engine.   Looking for a developer now to do a general purpose drag racing
game...

Why Split the market.. IHRA vs NHRA.. hehe

Sorry for my confusion, I thought we were talking about an NHRA license.
Either way, I wonder if it will see the light of day.  How about working
something out with Papyrus?  If it's "general purpose", but contained
end-user friendly methods for updating/adding tracks and car graphics,
people can modify the files to provide for appropriate car graphics,
trackside and car sponsor logos, etc.  I hope you can find the right
resources to finish the job!

It's the American way...one decent series must be better times two..
Cart/IRL  NFL/XFL  ALMS/GA  Lawyers/Accountants/Hairdressers (ok those
combined don't add up enough to equal two but ....)

It would be nice to see a company like papy pick it up.  I just bought the
IHRA game and it has some great potential.  I figured something was up when
it took so long to get another patch out.  With on-line racing becoming so
popular, I think there is a good opportunity for someone there.  I spend a
lot of time with N3 and now struggling through N4 but we really need a good
drag racing sim.   Good luck, I'll be watching for ya.

because if the physics are realistic, nhra will beat the ***outta ihra.imho,
ihra is a series for learners, and nhra is for the big boys.and girls. not
trying to start anything, i just never got over shirley muldowney touting the
ihra a couple of years ago, when she could'nt get a ride in nhra.

Drag Racing Simulation Games - Burnout, PCE, NIRA and IHRA.. It was great while it lasted...

This is not to start anything but NHRA and NHRA2 ( rumor is that Moto1 has a
new one in the works) is WAY better in every way that of Bethesda products.

I bought both Burnout and IHRA for $40 and only paid $20 for Moto1's game. I
felt like I got ripped off. Especially after racing Moto1's awesome game.

It is in the physics model. IHRA just is not fun. And not challenging (I
will take some of that back if you consider the way to timely tuning and non
comprehensive UI in the game) Also Moto1 has a huge online community
growing. I have been racing online for the last couple of weeks and it has
been a blast.

Go to www.nitrosim.com and www.racegrafixs.com and check out the message
boards:)

BTW, the correct URL for racegrafix is, oddly enough:

http://www.racegrafix.com

No "s" after the "x"

Don,

It's great that you are trying to sell your talent, but don't put down NHRA
Drag Racing or Tony, he did a great job in producing NHRA Drag Racing and
NHRA Drag Racing 2, making it fun and delivering online with weather
variations, custom paint jobs, etc, and we are going to keep improving on
the online aspect among other things I can't talk about.

Do you know the reasons Tony decided to keep the interface 'simple'? my
guess is that you are assuming things. It might seem simple since there is
not a ton of parameters to change, but the combinations are hard enough and
keeps it fun. I'm not going to drop names on professionals that race online
all the time but you'll be surprised.

You wont hear from me or anyone at Moto1.net putting down other products,
developers or companies, after all we are all professionals. We do drag
racing games because is a fun sport and making games is fun and the more
games the better.

Tony Simmerman is a great person and I had a blast working with him, now he
is working in another great product that I can't talk about in here either,
but we still keep in touch although not often since we are both very busy.

If you want to hear what people think of our game just go to
www.racinglanes.com or www.nitrosim.com or www.racegrafix.com or
www.joystickreview.com or ...  well there are many but they are all linked
with each other.

I don't read this forum often (busy as always) but I'll keep an eye for your
response if any otherwise send me e-mail.
