Hi,

I dont know if its a problem with the UK version of GP2, but several of
the utilities posted on many webb sites refuse to work with my version of
the Sim.

The two program at the moment in question are  the
CD Less one. (Which reports that a file is missing when trying to do any
racing)

and the more recent number changing program. Do I have to be in a certain
directory of the game for this, because at the moment, while in the GP2
directory, it appears to do nothing.

I haven't tried that one yet, so I can't comment.

What number changing program (asks someone very frustrated over not being
able to edit this within the game)???

OK, I do have this program now and have likewise tried it to no avail. Can
anyone clarify if I followed the corrrect procedure (the instructions were
minimal and rather vague):

1. Run the number changing .exe program and enter correct numbers.
2. Run patched version of GP2.
3. Exit GP2, saving settings to update f1gstate.sav
4. Replace patched version of GP2 with original gp2.exe
5. Run the original gp2.exe to see revised numbers

Did I miss anything here?  Has anyone gotten this to work?

Thanks,
Earl

Before you run .exe delete f1gstate.*

You'll probably want to keep your previous game state first. Just
change the filename extention ( f1gstate.old for example ).

*** But be aware: the game uses driver numbers to assign relative
abilities of the drivers. So, if you want to have D. Hill and J.V. as
numbers 5&6, you'll end up with a Schumacher and Verstappen
respectively. ***

Nice try Djordje, but once and for all must be said: Your Utility simply
doesn't work with my German 1.0b! (Yeah. f1gstate.* deleted, blah, blah)
Why can't you just admit you haven't tested it with all versions around?
Your effort will be honored by all freaks who'd like to switch as
completely as possible to the '96 season.

Thanks in advance,
Eric Engine

By the way, does any of you know a really good keyboard setup for all
race courses?

Yes, everything you sad is true, but i have already written v1.1,
whick directly supports English, French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish
version. If it finds unknown version like German it will try to find
location where driver numbers are stored. You can download it from
Pieter's GP Homepage.

The program worked very nicely.  But after you changed the car numbers,
the performace of the drivers are all messed up.  Drivers with "spare"
numbers (those not used in the 94 season, i.e. 16,17,18,21 and 22) are
too competetive.  And it seems to me that driver performance is not tied
to the car number only, but also depends on the position of the cars in
a way which is not very obvious to me.  So I guess I just have to leave
the numbers as they are until a driver performance editor comes out.
