Yep, sat in a race prepared ASCAR today (UK series based on ASA cars), first
time id ever been near one, (cheers Paul Sheard), i was looking especially
at the view out the***pit, and im amazed that they can see anything out
the front at all, the view is tiny. I gotta say i love the massive mirror
though (or 4 mirrors together in the car i sat in), you really do have a
(resonably) good view behind.
the driver sits far far back, you cant see the bonnet (hood) at all, the
seat glues you into position, and the wheel is large in front of you.
the only thing that really suprised me though was the positioning of the
pedals. Clutch and brake over on the left, then a big gap, and the accel
over on the right. Paul Sheard (the driver and owner of the car) said that
he'd be left foot braking most of the time on the ovals, and heel and toeing
on the normal tracks ( :) ), he also said that once the car had gone
through 15 degrees it would go all the way. and some people here think n4
aint realistic. but this guy has No banked oval experience (being british),
so we discussed the pros and cons of a loose car, how ascar might do in the
UK, and i spoke to someone from the Richard Petty driving experience as well
who said the RPDE cars are tight as hell, when i asked him whether a non
american could ever compete in nascarwc, he just laughed.
