I guess I'm showing my age, but a guy named Kenny Roberts (even Jr.)
riding a Suzuki just doesn't sound right. :-)  And if Doohan's got a
tib/fib fracture, it'll be a while.  Unfortunately, I speak from
experience!  There are compensations, though; my own extended recovery
from such gave me the chance to do some Karting, which I'd probably
never have done otherwise.  And btw, driving with a cast on really
puts the fear into your competitors.  They tend to give you plenty of
room!

Finding it impossible to get the real story on Mike Doohan. Some reports
say he broke both tibia and fibia as well as right collarbone and wrist.
CNN (About 10 minutes ago) reckons he has broken a kneecap but not the
tibia or fibia. ABC news reckons he has a back injury. I suppose in
about 10 hours Barry Sheen will tell us the real story!

Hope he is back real soon. Watching the rest of the GP500 riders is a
bit like settling for the B team. It would of been nice to see Roberts
and Doohan fight it out for the title. I am sure whoever wins it would
of appreciated it more if they beat Doohan over a whole season.

I would love to see them give Doohan's bike to Anthony West, a yound
Aussie doing well in the 250's. Anybody but a clone Jap rider!

Come on Kenny, show em what a Suzuki wit a real rider can do!

Mark, we don't want to scare young Anthony too much yet! I believe there is
a Mr. D. Beattie currently looking for a ride at the Suzuka 8-hour.....it
would be great to see him back on a Honda (we he should never have left!).

Reports say Mick will be back in the championship in 8 weeks, but I thinks
they made that up. How would anyone know this yet? I hope he can make a
comeback, but I think we will see Max Biaggi ride really well now. The
psychological war between him and Doohan is over for the moment and Max will
relax a bit. I read a good quote about Max by Micheal Scott, something about
"balls nearly as big as his mouth"!

Not a racial slur. Just a comment about the glut of go fast then crash 500cc
riders from the land of the rising sun. It would be a damn shame if somebody
like Itoh got the ride because he can go fast  in Japan on a 500 and its a
Jpanese factory bike. There are a lot of riders in Japan of the same type.

Perhaps Barry Sheene should adopt him?

His leg is fractured just below the knee. Luckily (?) it is a vertical
fracture. He will be back in 4 to 5 weeks I reckon.

Itoh will probably get the bike. I can hear a crash and burn coming
on.....

Racist? Some of my best friends are Asian. My next door neighbour is
Japanese and we get along like wildfire. Clone Jpa rider means exactly
that. Another Japanese who gets the ride because its a Japanese factory
and because they go fast on the Jpanese domestic tracks.

Doohan gives himeself 6 weeks.

Beattie was great but he phsyched himself out of 500's.

Perhaps McCoy. it ould be nice since Dohan stole his team from under him!

According to Barry Sheene he could be back in 5-6 weeks. I hope he is
wrong, for Mick's sake - I see no point in him coming back half fit - of
course, Mick may not agree with me :-)

Looking at the race schedule I reckon he will aim for 4 to 5 weeks. This will mean
he misses three rounds and will come back at the next Spanish round.

However........his doctor today said he will suggest a three month break to allow
for full healing. Hope is only misses three rounds. That will give the otheres a
reasonable headstart to make the season closer a the end!
