I thought we had this discussion before...and still you are convinced that
GPL drivers are better drivers?
i followed the discussion about you're fantastic lap time at Barcelona.

I also read you downloaded the replay and the setup? Hadn't had the time to
try it yourself...for somebody that did 1000 laps in GPL could have made
some time to do say 50 laps in F1 2000?

the new record is 15.6 btw. And the final record will be somewhere in the
14's. Why this? Well i got my silverstone setup modified wings and went on
the track after 3 hours...yes i took the time i got 15.7. The fact is you
are comparing a mouse with an elephant. If you like GPL so much and this
counts for others too stick with it..i'm not talking shit about the game or
do I? We got the fact now that GPL don't like F1 2000.

One of the reasons Greg Huttu is leading the mobile challenge of F1 2000
must be cause it's a piece of cake cause he drove GPL? Never accured to yuo
that he might be a superb driver? As you look in the Mobile Challenge Morgan
won at Barcelona. And to tell you this Morgan was a TOCA 2 driver in the
past. Hmm TOCA2 driver that beat a GPL driver...that's not possible right
Mister Warringa?

Right, I've had it.. the misinterpretation has gone too far. I don't know
what Germanism (Dutch is considered a "Germanic" language, hence errors in a
foreign language due to this heritage are called Germanisms) got Andre in
trouble, but he NEVER said GPL drivers were more talented than any others
(not in any message I read anyway).

He did say that, in his opinion (which I subscribe to), talent made a bigger
difference in getting to grips with GPL than any other game. I'm quite sure
he realises Greger is talented and that this attribute separates his
laptimes from those of the mere mortals.

For reference, I got a 16.2 in my first session with F1 2000 (+/- 3 hours)
and my best GPL Monza time (after two years with GPL and reading 10+ books
on setup and driving technique) is 1m30.83s. -You see? With all my
experience (I estimate 5000+ hours at the wheel of a simulated performance
car over the years) I get smoked by a 10 year old (and just about everyone
else), who although he also practiced a non-negligible amount of time, only
needs to improve his consistency and racecraft (can be learned, raw speed
cannot) to relegate me to the ranks of the "never were" (as if the more
talented GPL drivers hadn't already ;-)).

Face it... F1 2k lacks challenge, just like many other racing games out
there. I just managed to finish NFS:PU in 5 nights (Evolution + Factory
driver). Papyrus, on the other hand have always made talent a prerequisite
for "finishing" their games. Despite being (thanks to the efforts of a well
known RAS poster) a very proud ICR2 Indy500 winner, I have never done better
than 3rd overall and as for NASCAR... don't get me started: the Winston Cup
is a long way off, I tell you.

Maybe I just suck (a definite possibility, experience would indicate), but
at least GPL shows it up front.

Hi!

Right, despite the fact, that GPL is a "game" that one will never finish ;).
Btw: F1 2000 (the game, not its drivers!) sucks!

He he, this is what I meant with my post exactly in one sentence :)

I posted my reply to Brian under another header, but in case you miss
that one Brian, here's a copy:

Hi Brian,

I said that it took me ages before I could run some decent lap times
in GPL, lots of practice, and in F1 2000 I did a low 1.16 lap (16.2
or .3, can't remember) within 2 hours of practice.
I didn't say GPL drivers were better in my last post as far as I can
recal (that happens when you respond to an old post).
Everybody can draw their own conclusion.
Bottom line is, and I think that was very clear in my post, that I
didn't get a sense of achievement with my 1.16 lap, because I allmost
didn't have to practice for it.

Thanks, but really, the fantastic lap time at Barca was no big deal,
that was what my post was all about :)

I'm not too much into car setups, I'm a racer, not an engineer. For
GPL I also downloaded lots of replays and setups. Didn't know it was
forbidden, or that it was unfair breaking a lap record using someone
else's setup and watching a replay. Excuse me please.

WOW, THAT'S MORE THAN HALF A SECOND FASTER THAN I DID AFTER 2 HOURS
PRACTICE! THAT'S FREAKING UN-BE-LIE-VA-BLE!!! :)))

Bull, a lot of GPL drivers like GPL. You really didn't get the
intention of my post, did you? That's all I need, a second DGF...

Ofcourse it is Brian (you can call me Andre by the way). Perhaps my
grandmother is a really good GPL driver too if she tried. Being a good
TOCA2 driver doesn't mean you also can't be a good GPL driver.
Again, my post wasn't about GPL drivers being better drivers than
other sim drivers.
In my post I told about my F1 2000 experience, how easy it was for me
to get a very decent lap time after a very short practice period (a
little bit more than half a second slower can the current world
record, and that after 2 hours of practice... Bernie, where do I
sign?) and because of that I didn't get any feeling of achievement.

Have a beer, calm down, read my post again, try to understand it this
time, and go on with whatever makes you happy.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.  Is it a *bad* thing that he downloaded
the replay and setup?  If so, why?  And although I don't remember how many laps
he said he did, what's wrong with him doing 50?  He ran about 2 hours, right?
That sounds like a lot MORE than 50...
