Like many of you, I downloaded RT demo last week and gave it a try this
week-end.
Well, I must say that it gave me a big disapointment.
My good old celeron 400/64MB seems to be out of date.
As Xmas is coming up, followed by my bithday in Feb, I think I can convince
my financial director (aka my wife) to get my computer upgraded.

I think I'm gonna to choose an MSI motherboard / Athlon 1.2GHZ (maybe 1.4)
and at least 256MB.
I wish I can run RT, and GPL (with all those great add-ons I never dared to
install) perfectly. I hope GPL2 (if it comes true) and WSC will run smoothly
as well.

What do you think ?

I already own a Voodoo 3/3000, and I wonder if a Prophet 4500 (64MB/Kyro II)
would help. Can you answer me on this point ?

Thank you.
AL

Ok, wise choice, get the PRO2 board with the 266A (the A is VERY important)
chipset, usually they come with a smart key USB dongle which prevents
booting of the PC if you are not around (not vital but interesting).
Regarding the CPU specs there has been a MAJOR price drop on the Athlon last
week, you can ge tthe 1600XP for cheaper than the 1400 last week...check it
out with your reseller

Get a CHEAP geforceII MX, it is really the best buy for the buck right now,
less than 100$ so if you have to change it in 2 years you are not going to
be upset about it

Here's my upgrade from about 2 weeks ago (from www.newegg.com):

ECS K7A5S Mobo $57 (GREAT board, stable, no VIA or raid probs, built in LAN
port for my cable modem and low cost).
AMD 1600+ $160 at the time, now $140 (fast dropping CPU prices).
512 MB DDR 2100 Ram $110.
IBM 60 GB HD $130.
GF3 Ti 500 $350 (bought locally not online).

If you wanted to save some $ on the video, go with a Ti 200 for about $180.
The 4500 is a nice card but it's far outclassed by GF3's at this point.

I'm running GPL just fine here on my Asus A7V, Athlon1.2, 256MB RAM,
Radeon VIVO, SB-Live! etc.

So, I don't see why your system should do at least as well.

It's tricky to second-guess what system requirements for a rumoured
game will be though.

You'll definitely want to get as fast a processor and mobo as you can
afford!

I'm running a PIII 933 w/384 RAM and a 133mhz ASUS mobo with a GeForce 2 GTS
64 meg and have to turn down the graphic options in order to get a decent
framerate!

This game, along with F12001 take hefty resources to be able to run with
full graphic options up and at least 1024x768 displays

I would prefer the GeForce 3 Ti200.  It's not that much more expensive than
the 4500.

Or, maybe wait and see how good the on-board video of the nForce Chipset
based boards really is...

3DFX is history. Go at least GF2 NVidia chip.
