Hey Tom, are you still planning on updating any of the converted
tracks?

Tom, quick question for you about Sear Point - Any reason you painted the
sand trap just before the S turns to look like pavement?  Great way to
confuse people the first few times around.  If it is actually pavement can
you not edit the track itself or if not leave it as sand as although it
might look realistic it doesn't drive as such.
Also are there any other such changes on Sears or other tracks where what
you see isn't what the surface actually is?

I'm pretty sure they did pave that area this past spring.  Since Tom
works there everyday, I'd be willing to bet that the sandtrap is gone and
has been replaced by asphault.

Oh I don't doubt that, my point is that it now looks like pavement in the
game but if you drive there it's still modelled as sand.  Apparently
painting sand to be pavement doesn't work ;)

ah..ok...that would require more than just new texutures then.  Didn't
read your post closely enough I guess :)   I don't think any of his
repainted tracks have had any physical changes made to them,  like turning
sand to asphalt.
For Sears I think he mentioned that turn 7 was still wrong, but that
would be up to Papyrus to fix that.(or somebody who knows track editing I
guess)

Jason...

Probably not.  The reason is that with N2K3 due out in a couple months, I'll
be focusing on updating those tracks next.  And, until the "converted"
tracks are confirmed to work in N2K3....I'm not going to do them...since
their "lifespan" at this point is very, very short.  I will wait until
converted tracks are working ....or recreated for N2K3.  Most of the texture
updates I'm doing now for N2K2....will (should) port over to N2K3.......as
needed.

From screenshots I've seen so far of N2K3.....I think my "work" in the
texture realism department.....will be slightly less than in N2K2....but
still needed.  That's just my opinion, at this point......of course!

Schooner...

As Dave pointed out....that "sandtrap" at T-7 is now gone.  There's two
things that determine each "surface" in N2K2.....this has been the case
since N-1 actually....same in GPL.  You have the "texture file" that
displays on the surface....and the "physics surface" that determines the
car's interface with the surface.  They are two different things.  I can
change the "texture" that is displayed....but not the "physics surface"
......hope that makes sense.  I believe the "physics surface" is determined
by the track.3do file....not an editable item......that I know of.

Since you shouldn't be out there in that part of the track anyway.....I
chose to make it "look correct"....even if it wouldn't "drive
correct"........so, don't drive out there!  LOL...

Hi Dave...

You are right.....Turn 7 in N2K2 is not correct.  What happened was.....Papy
contacted the Sears Point architect (Bob Davis) and got the plans for the
new Winston Cup Chute from him........around January of 2000, I believe.
But, when Sears got around to actually constructing the new WC Chute
(including Turn-7)....they made a last minute change to T-7....and built it
as it is now....and was for the last two Cup races.  Bob Davis sent the
"revised plans" to Papy....but they were either ignored, lost....or Papy had
already built the track and didn't want to change it.  Who knows....they've
never responded to this that I know of?

Just for "FYI"......the Turn-7 that actually exists.........doesn't start to
turn right until about another 100 to 150 feet further down track (coming
straight down from the new 90 degree previous turn).  Then it turns much
sharper right.....almost 180 degrees...and heads back to the original top of
the esses....making that turn almost a 90 degree left...into the
esses.....then off down through the esses which is correct in N2K2.  That
should give you a rough idea of what the actual Turn-7 at Sears is like.

Let's hope that Papy fixes this for N2K3....and that they add the new
grandstand, the changed main straight (no longer are the drag strip and the
main straight at S/F the same surface....which changes T-1
slightly).....move all this hills back about 300 yards down through the
esses.....remove all the footbridges (only the FRAM footbridge at T-1 is
still there) and add all the new terrace seating (in T-7 and down through
the esses).  Gosh...I sure hope they do?

Regards,

Tom
