LCD Monitor Tolerable?

LCD Monitor Tolerable?

by John L » Wed, 05 May 1999 04:00:00

I'm planning a new computer system.  It'll be an NT system, mostly for
work, but I'll have a dual-boot with W98 and a good graphics card and
run some racing games too.  But I am leaning toward a dual-LCD-monitor
setup, which raises these questions:

1.  Are LCD monitors terrible, tolerable, good, great for simulators
like GPL, F1, etc?

2.  Any possibility of having a game window span two monitors?  Anyone
heard of this?

1. LCD monitors should be driven digital for best image, and they are still
a bit slow for games and video.

2. Yes, but only if the game allows it. Flight simulator 98 can be expanded
to 2 monitors (in windowed mode).
GPL uses fullscreen mode and cant be on several monitors

You will not be happy with the LCD's performance on games.  At my job we
have tried a variety of supplier's models with many types of software.
They just don't seem to refresh quick enough for fast animations.  I
haven't seen it for GPL, but on most FPS a CRT looks better. I don't
have a technical explanation, just my personal observation.
