whos cheating?

hello,

First time I post here after nearly 4 years of playing Gpl hehe:)
Since vroc is now (almost) empty, I spent last nite reading sim-racing
forums and this board.. cant believe the quantity of ppl names I never
seen before! try gpl online if you havent, dammit:)

Anyway, I was fortunate enough to discover sim-racing when vroc was
full of good racers and races, and I know this can be a really fun,
low-cost hobby if you can afford to sleep 3-4 hours a nite. However,
the races I joined in the last months were abysmal.. I mean pretty
much everyone is crashing every lap.. and, when im bored enough to
stay connected, I often get accused of being a cheater by someone who
retired on 2nd lap... pasting a DFV to the murasama doesnt turn you
into a better racer, btw...............

Now I read the forums and I see the same nutters who cant finish a 10
laps race, writing on how racing games should be made, played, or
whatever.. please stop writing thousands of posts about racing games
and learn to drive, and go race in vroc.
You beg for more realistic tire wear but yours wont stay attached to
the car more than 2 laps..... I understand that gpl is old software
and that many good racers are bored of it, but im sure some, like me,
arent bored of Gpl itself but bored of the type of people that fills
forums with their whinings and requests, without even having a clue
what a good online race can be. Im pretty sure the fastest guys, the
aliens (theyre perfectly normal humans) had the most fun (clean, fast
racing) out of Gpl. Cant find a way to write this without sounding
like an 'elitist' but i could care less. Like in order to play chess,
having any fun doing so, I need to follow some basic but essential
rules.. to have fun at Gpl I need racing (staying on track at all
cost), is that so strange?

If you crash every few corners, you've got something wrong somewhere,
youre going to have to invest a few hours of WORK in order to get your
Gpl driving ok, dont just crash and crash again on cold tires, trying
to beat your 10-seconds-off-the-pace personnal bests, unless thats
what sim-racing is to ya..

I really believe almost everyone can race close to the fastest guys in
gpl, oviously some are very talented, but if you have car advantage,
and find some kind of consistency in your driving, you can do it.. its
not like 1% of the earth population was playing Gpl, the world-records
will be out of reach for almost everyone, including me, but again if
you get somewhere within 3 seconds of the best laps, you have a
chance, and youll be involved in a race not a demolition derby..

so if you ever plan to have fun sim-racing, dont drive against Ai,
configure your stuff correctly, inform yourself on basic setup
information and start racing!

heres a great example on how to drive Gpl, youll notice that Andy
doesnt do anything more than 'accelerate-brake-apex-accelerate', fast
guys didnt find a new way to operate a race car.....

Andreas Wilke's site, ( http://www.racesimcentral.net/) go Andy!:)

example of a good online race:
(gpl replay, 28mb) http://www.racesimcentral.net/

watch this race and tell me you had more fun than this with Gpl, or
any sim-racing :)

feel free to comment and please if you have link to great replays like
this that demonstrate racing online is possible, post it here..

cheers
Seb

I dont.

I watched Andy Wilke drive GPL at Goodwood - and other commented, as I did.
Most people just CAN NOT do that - fact.  We can not go as fast as he can.

If everyone could do it - then everyone WOULD do it.

I'm not sure that the inability to perform a task cancels out someones
ability to offer a clear, well spoken opinion on how something should be
done.  If that were true, there would be few coaches or racing team
owners.  Simply because these 'nutters' can't finish a race, doesn't
mean that they're blind to their mistakes and shortcomings.  Although if
they're claiming that everyone they race against is cheating, I'd be
more inclined to believe you.

BTW, I'm not defending my***poor driving.   I wish I could race on
VROC, but I spend 90% of my time worrying that I might***someones
race up and end up hosing mine.  So I stay away.
