SODA Part2 thread.. What I was asking was...

That is my one and only concern at the moment.

Yep, Agree with this also, MTM is fun to just fire-up and go but
certainly not "sim", especially after sampling the SODA demo (now
here's a real offroad driving model) !

Just for kicks, I tried going off track to the left before going down
the hill with the grandstands at the bottom. Whew! What a feeling
flying off that ridge and descending in a straight dive for the water!
The track editor could really produce some thrilling experiences with
this in mind ;).

Total agreement here! Papy is still the king IMHO of auto-sims and
hopefully they will be able to go even one step further and start
porting to 3dfx which could produce purely awesome results!

Excellent post Stinger! Right on track with my thoughts.

My opinions of this game are as they came as I embarked on my first 5 lap
race,---
starting line,   where are the gauges, oh hit space bar cool!
green flag, hmm pulling (usually for me like shifting 3-4 on manual
shifter) back on shifter goes to reverse, Oh S--t LOOK OUT !!
first turn in (unrealized by me to be Mud) d*m man,  jerky, whoops really
touchy here.
exit now reset the graphics, turn all of but telemetry, road textures, go
again...
man is this cool,  having seen many in car camera's on ESPN on buggies and
the trucks I believe this is great as can be without a gravity field around
chair to allow you to feel G-Forces in the seat of your pants...

what I was wondering was...What are the chances that Soda will run nicer
upon release than the demo?   Pretty high I hope
or will they fill it up and require graphics workstation like Lucas-arts
has to run in good quality mode??
I was HOT ready to buy need 4 speed until I tried demo...(not se though, as
the demo for se needs a 3dcard and driver apparently an my 2mb millenium{1}
didn't much count),  simply wasn't what I was expecting after Nascar1, 2
and indycar.  N4S, acted like I was on a city sewer ditch with scum but no
water on the road...banging off imaginary walls etc...  the graphics was
just jerky enough to give absolutely no illusion of speed let alone
movement.  as the frames came on the textures were almost always in the
same space on the screen.  I did like the detail of the rear view and
skidmarks, although the skid marks left apparently right after you did.

I also tried Test-drive, and test-drive off road.  man were these crap!  I
played similar quality games on freaking Nintendo (Original,   IMHO).

I have Monster Truck Madness It is a very Neat GAME!  not a sim but a game!
MTM is to a racing as a computer sim as computer pong was to tennis.  sort
of good, little setup-control, no damage reality, but dang fun and anyone
could play!  And plays pretty good I might add, can definitely tell you are
moving, etc.

I been putting in many a lap on soda, waiting on release dates!!!!  I see a
sand drag and a hill climb track as priority for me heheee!  have you drove
through the big pond behind the bleachers on drop-off hill?  or climbed the
hill on side?  Looks like they could have a very good MotoCross engine
here, button 3 put foot down to leverage a turn (on cycle) button 4 to drag
foot for a power burm turn I suppose heheee.

I have to agree with Harold...  Papyrus does give me more fun and realism
for my Sim-Game dollar than anyone, and they make it fun and playable with
some compromises.
LAST Thing, Is Jim Solkoloff >possible misspell< sorry Jim, involved with
this??  though he left them, too bad I enjoyed his wit and insight on
Nascar stuff.

BRAVO  to  SODA
-------Thanks

I'm still here (in rec.auto.sim) and occasionally visit my friends at
papyrus, but I am no longer affiliated (read: working) with them...
