Here's my little theory...

I think GPL is sort of an experiment.  Sierra is going to use the same basic
game for the hugely popular Nascar Racing 3 and doesn't want to blow it...
so they do a 'working experiment.' GPL is basically sound, so
if people don't like it they can change gameplay before the 'real deal',
Nascar.
So GPL will make some money, but more importantly most of it will
be used to rake in the dough sometime soon.

Just thought i'd point out the fact, that if you took away all the gpl
posts, you would have maybe 10-15 messages a day on here instead of over
200!  And people are wondering whether this game will sell?  I'd say it is
dominating, and I can't even get it in my area yet!  I hope it is as good as
the posts say it is.  You'd think that everyone would be too busy playing it
to put posts about it on here.

Certainly, damn near everyone in this newsgroup either has already bought
it, or will be buying it when it is available in their country.  Yet only a
small, small percentage of the game-buying public is present on this
newsgroup.  We were discussing before about whether "Joe Consumer" would be
attracted to this sim due to its high learning curve.....and I've already
seen a couple of posts from people that did not like the game because it was
too difficult.  What does everyone think now?

Well, I cannot say much one way or the other.  I am still f_ucking around
with my wheel, trying to get it to drive straight (see earlier post "Please
Read About My Controller Problem").  Other than that, it's great, and it
makes me feel like I am actually driving a car, much like a good plane sim
makes you think you're really flying.

Personally, I think that among sim racers the game will dominate, for sure
at least 90% of the racers who buy it will love it.  But it might be a hard
sell for someone who is not into racing sims, but that can be said for any
game.

Actually, I was suprised that the learning curve was not much steeper, based
on what I had been hearing. Yes, it's hard, you have to be patient, learn
the track, learn how to drive your car around it. I am having a blast with
it, while i've only driven Monza, the Glen, and the Spa so far, I love it.
Gpl without a doubt raises sim racing to all new heights.

I was in CompUSA in San Diegoi yesterday, and they had probably 20 or so
copies sitting ont he shelf, and NOWHERE did I see a sign saying it was
released.

And yes, it's definitely as good as everyone says it is, especially if
you have the hardware to support it.

What's that - "the Spa"? And they said GPL would have no weather! :)

Seems most are putting posts here cause they are all trying to figure
out how to drive the damn thing. Sure feels like the cars are driving
on ice or something cause its a pure *** to keep the car on the
track. Guess thats why folks like it; its damn challanging.

I'm getting Viper instead. Its a great game. You can choose your
'seriousness' of driving (arcade, inter, sim) and its uses the full
monitor heigth. (hehe, had to say that last remark)

ah yes, i reckon these two sims are the best to date:) I only have
the demo of both as yet, but i know the full games of both will
rock. I reckon Viper will be an excellent complement to GPL. GPL
for racing old style F1, Viper for modern sportscars. I just
tried the GPL demo again this morning, first time since i got the
Viper demo, and hell, you can majorly feel the difference in handling!
Viper's handling is very crisp and responsive, and while the GPL
handling is responsive too, but the car wallows around so much due to
the type of tyres they run. I think that's one of the main things it
takes novices to this sort of car a long time to sort out - allowing
the car the extra time it needs to shift around and settle for a
corner compared to modern race cars.

Viper plays pretty well over the net too, which is a good bonus:)

No wings, skinny tires.  It feels slow, the replays of my laps look
slow, but so do everyone elses.  I've only done Nurburgring seriously.

I just couldn't get into the demo.  I suck in the game, but I think
it's a lot nicer.

One thing I didn't like about the demo is the amount of movement
inside the***pit.  This is an attempt to convey G-forces.  In the
game, that movement is still there, but much less, which is just right
for me.
