Hawaii Chassis & Tire Choice

Hawaii Chassis & Tire Choice

There's a rumor that's been going around (don't recall if anyone posted it
here) that on Hawaii, your tire and chassis selection was based on your car
number. The suggested solution was to edit the DRIVERS.TXT/DRIVER2.TXT and
change all the drivers to use your selected car and chassis. I posed this
question to Papyrus and received the following response from Mike Lescault:

I hope this clears the air somewhat.

I tried a race at Talladega. Using the same Qual setup I use for MP (not
the one for Nascar) I could only get my lap speed up to 191 instead of
the usual high 193 to mid 194. Anyone have any ideas about whats going
on?

Even if your chassis choice wasn't what you wanted, it would not make a 2-3
mph difference.  Did you check the wind and temperature?  These can
have a large impact on speeds.

That could be weather. Hawaii has two weather conditions, as far as I can
tell. If you set the conditions, you get 70 degrees, no wind. If you choose
random weather, you get 85 degrees, wind NW 7mph. Believe it or not, 15
degrees can make a huge difference. As an example, I pushed the temperature
up to 120 degrees once, and did a qual session in the high 197's.
