Kiss the speedometer goodbye!!

I drove NCR2 for 10-12 hours over this past weekend at nearly every
track except Loudon and I never missed the speedometer once.  I thought
it would take alot of getting used to, I was wrong.  The spotter tells
you what RPM to stay under and the sim is alot easier to drive by feel.
So goodbye speedo.  I can't say I'll miss ya.

But it was nice of them to include it for those who can't give it up!

My feeling as well, David. I stopped using it right after they gave us the
spotter pit speed RPM messages in beta and I haven't looked back since. I
think there's a tendency to use the speedo as crutch ("I should be doing
175 in T1") instead of driving by feel.

As you can tell by me asking this question, my copy hasn't arrived
yet, but if you change the gear ratio, will he change his RPM call.
does it represent true mph based on RPM of the gear you're in, the
gear you put in there (let's say the default setup has 10.1 and you
change it to 9.6, would the RPMs change?)

I think I made the question more complicated than it had to be...

To get the speedometer to work in the  in car mode you have to press the
"s" key .

Yes, the spotter does adjust the RPM call to the nearest multiple of 500
that will keep you below the pit speed limit. Note that at taller gear
ratios, this may leave a considerable amount of slop.

thanks for the info, David.  I finally got N2, and have found it very
handy to have the spotter.  I can now concentrate on the race!  I
would like to (in the future) have an option to call out race position
(kinda like Alt-L) every other lap or something... nice to know when
I'm racing for position (or make it a programmable key so I can whack
the space bar instead of going for the 2 finger vulcan salute)

btw, I love the re-works on the tracks! great job!

The spotter calls out to tell you whether you're racing the car in front or
behind. For example, if you pass a car, and the car in front of you is on
the same lap, the spotter will say, "You're racing the car in front of
you". If that car passes a lapped car, the spotter will say, "The [fill in
the number] car is a lap down". When you get past the lapped car, the
spotter will once again tell you that you're racing for position.

You can also get instant split times by selecting the F2 screen and
pressing enter, just like in MULTI. Cars on the same lap are in white, cars
a lap down are in green, and cars that are a lap up on you are in red. Note
that in the Rendition version, you'll take a serious hit on your frame
rate. I usually leave the F1 or F2 screen up and then hit the enter key
periodically to get my split to the car in front and behind.

The tracks do look great. The night race at C***te is particularly
awesome, especially watching from some of the camera angles in the replay.
