1) When did the Alabama track get re-named to Talladega? Was Talladega
painted on the walls in 1970?
2) The NL game manual refers to a 48-race season...does anyone have (or have
a link to) a race calendar from 1970--and I mean a regular calendar or
schedule, not necessarily a NL one.
3) I can understand why Daytona is not there, but what about Asheville,
Columbia, Hickory, Kingsport, Savannah, Trenton and W. ***ia? Weren't
all of these (some of them quite interesting) used in 1970? We have lots of
tracks for N3, so??????? Are there others I don't know about?
Thanks for any help and enlightenment.
Marc.
P.S. RIP Greg Moore....fellow Canuck who aside from being a great racer
embodied all of the good qualities we like to think of as Canadian, a good
sportsman and a gentleman.

I don't know of one on the net and I really don't feel like typing the
entire thing out right now.<G> If you can't find one let me know and I will
put one together for you.

One track I know they ran on (but I don't specifically remember if they ran
on it 1970 or not--but I think they did) was Smoky Mountain Raceway, a
half-mile high banked dirt track (that was really closer to 5/8 mile) about
forty miles south of Knoxville, TN. The track was located in a small
"holler" where I used to hunt arrowheads as a child. I think it was David
Pearson who said it was "the roughest damn track I ever drove on." Buddy
Baker has a nice story or two about his experiences at the track on one of
the NASCAR 50th Anniversary tapes. One of the original promoters of SMR
went to Talledega and played a big part in making that track what it is
today, I think.
I'd like to see this track and some of the others you mention, but I imagine
the research effort would be a killer.

As for the not included tracks, which you avoided replying to, I can
understand your reluctance. However, I would be satisfied regardless of the
reply: i.e., licensing cost too much; too much research involved; couldn't
be bothered because most people haven't heard of them anyway....whatever. I
just prefer to know these things, but I won't get bent out of shape if you
have to reserve issuing a statement on the matter.
Thanks again for putting up with the highly excitable crowd here in r.a.s.
Marc.

Make that another vote for Trenton. I remember my father taking my brother
and I there to watch the qualifying. Can't recall the year. Seems like 1968
or 1969. Anyway, I'd like to have Trenton in NL.

That track's still there, BTW, but it's by no means in the same
configuration it was in 1970. As I mentioned in another post, in 1970 it
was a high-banked dirt track--banks as high or higher than Bristol, I
believe.
Since then it's been paved, unpaved, and turned into a bull ring. In it's
day, the races at SMR were as big a deal as those at Bristol, and if it had
continued with the right management, we could very easily be talking about
SMR today instead of Bristol. A race at SMR was surely an experience to
remember.
