Latest RSDG mod: worth installing .NET?

by Uwe Schürkam » Thu, 24 Jun 2004 16:52:17

Hi folks, before I jump the gun and start cluttering up my trusty
win98se installation by installing the .net needed in order to install
the latest RSDG sportscar mod, I'd like to find out if that's worth
the effort? I see surprisingly few posts about this mod, neither
positive nor negative, or is the discussion lead in those modern web
forum thingies and not here, on hopelessly outdated and obsolete
usenet? ;-)

Thanks in advance for any comments,

uwe

It's got a few nigglin items that folks are commenting about on those
web places, but overall the reception of SCC has been positive.  I
beleive they have an option to only dload the core of the mod so you
don't need .net.  This means tho, that you can't use the launcher which
is a pretty useful item.  You'd also have to go to the Web place and dig
thru the early messages to find a .plr file that you can use since the
game requires the launcher to build it.

I say yes!  I get the feeling it's not exactly realistic, but it's like what
I imagine being a pretty decent real-life racer (not me) jumping into a
similar real-life car would be like... kinda like what Patrick Hong
described in the latest R&T but not as powerful.  At least one RSDG member
has commented that they went more for overall feel and play balanced the
cars a bit.  Still, it's a blast online.  I've run four races on F1RST the
past two days, and I've never really run online before that!

Do you have a logitech Force Feedback wheel?
Values for logi and all the ISI sims should have the slider set to the
negative side.  So -80% or -99%.   If you have other brands..like MS or
Act Labs...the FF slider goes to the positive side.  Don't ask me why.
