I was reading Andy Mahood's column in the February edition. What's this
deal about the French hate emotion? It's not the first time I read
something about this in a PC mag. As a French-Canadian, I'm kinda
disappointed in that type of approach. Yes, I agree, the French (from
France as opposed to Canada) are a bit snobbish, but they're not that
bad. (I'm sure the American feel the same way about the English). Mr.
Mahood didn't do proper research on his subject matter either.
Regarding the purchase of Sierra by Havas: it hasn't stopped Papyrus
from planning on doing yet another NASCAR racing game.
Correct me if I'm wrong: part of the programming for Ubisoft's Monaco
Grand Prix racing sim was done in Montreal, Canada. Are we to be
included in those remarks too? Also, that game received very good
scoring from various PC mags. Is that supposed to represent a trashy
product? I must forget that F1 is not that popular in the US, but there
are other racing series other than NASCAR (note: I do like NASCAR
myself, but am opened to other games).
My point: cultural difference is actually good.
If it would have been the other way around (American buying French
companies), the issue would not have been raised. Wake up! Maybe
American companies are being bought for a reason (other than that silly
***). The US are not the center of the world.
Other interesting fact: Papyrus has "sub-contracted" track graphics to a
Russian team. Kinda funny considering such a thing would have been
heresy say 20 years ago (during the Cold War). Yet, you have a quality
product and the tracks look good (although no Russian on that team has
ever seen an actual NASCAR track).
As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter who designs/produce/sell the
game: if the game is good, I'll buy it.
Amicalement,
